Law School Admissions / Re: Free/Reduced Lunch = Poor?

sorry i meant to explain more clearly but got lazy. i meant unexpectedly because from the essay sample i was talking abt... the guy was talking about how circus circus is a surprising/ unexpected place to breed a law school student. i was just trying to draw the parallel.... that altho there are stereotypes that law school students come from middle classed families with a professional background... it doesnt have to be that way. it just means that under the disadvantaged background of being poor.... you have to overcome all that stuff but you can still do very well and become a law student. you should google that PS sample i talked about. just type in law school personal statement sample, and it should be within the first 10 links.

what I would do.... is to write abt ur free lunch experience in an introductory paragraph. talk about an interesting story or insight from ur free lunch experience. start off with something fun.... making ur PS interesting. I read a sample PS online.... forgot where from, and the author talked abt his experience growing up with his sister in circus circus while his parents gambled away. you could try to do something like that... talk abt how ur fre lunch experience has changed you. and how unexpectedly you have achieved to get to where you are today.

hahahh i heard tunnels were for the rain~ coz 'law professors should not get wet in the rain"- quoting from Martin Shapiro from Boalt. hoenstly... i think u'll be a lot happier in berkeley. at least u still hear people talking and laughing in the halls of boalt. but its hard to resist harvard. consider where you wna work.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Pepperdine ($) or Chapman ($$)
« on: March 25, 2009, 02:24:12 PM »
Thanks people! after much consideration.... my top choice is pepperdine at the moment. i still havent heard bak from loyola usc or ucla. does that mean i wont be getting in those schools? my diversity scholarship decision letter hsa been sent this morning... so if pepperdine will give me some more money I think that will seal the deal. Chapman is a lot cheaper to go to (especially since i wont have to move out, i'll be staying with my family).... its building its reputation and ranking rapidly, but its still a third tier sch. one more thing.... would it change any of your views if i told you my parents are paying for my expenses and tuition for law school? my family is not rich, but I am the only daughter... and its a chinese thing that parents pay for everything until you are completely done with sch and found your first job.  I dont want to waste my family's money, but they said they would rather work harder to afford me into a higher ranked sch than to worry abt debt and end up going to a lower ranked sch. just wondering if debt is not such a big issue... would it change anything?

thanks guys for suggesting that i should stay out of those kind of discussions altogether. i am just used to participating in these discussions coz we need to discuss to get a good participation grade in berkeley. but its ok to keep quiet in law school right?
