New methodology, pretty cool. Aside from class size variance, seems interesting.

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Increase scholarship amount?
« on: February 03, 2010, 02:16:20 PM »
So I have been offered some money from a school, but I have read about increasing this amount. I have the forum to apply for an increased amount, but what should I point out?
Do I want to list other schools I am considering, or just say "blah blah, I am interested in the school but it is still to expensive comparatively blah blah." What leverage/route is most effective? They offered 1/3 off and I am just trying for 1/2 off.

Thank you for any help/guidance.

So we're halfway through December which isn't that early in the cycle. I finished my applications in mid/end-October and I have heard back from only 1 of my 11 schools.
So, 2 questions:
1) That school is a safety school, but they did offer me an $11,000/yr (renewable) scholarship. Should I write them now and politely ask for a bigger offer? "I am waiting to hear back from some schools, and comparing my choices among schools already accepted to. Law School is the biggest decision to make in my life up to this point, but reducing the amount of debt I will have at the end is definitely a worthy consideration." blah blah blah something like that.
2) Should I start writing LOCIs to schools that have not made a decision? Or is that mainly for people on the WL? Do I just sit and wait? I am fine with that, not impatient or nervous, just wondering if there is anything I could be doing.

Thanks,
W

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / New Rankings, what month?
« on: December 19, 2009, 02:19:44 PM »
Just wondering what month new rankings out? I know a few movements shouldn't change my decision, but I am curious if I will get to see an update before committing to a school in this cycle.

Thanks,
W

Law School Applications / Fordham Apps - Problem
« on: October 02, 2009, 01:53:56 PM »
Anybody having any luck - or problems - getting into the Fordham application on the LSAC?
It should be up by now, especially considering they have an EA deadline of October 15th.
I click it to move to "active" and I get the run around, saying "Either the deadline has passed, the application is not ready yet, or blah blah."

Law School Applications / Another - WHERE CAN I GO?
« on: September 30, 2009, 07:40:13 PM »
white male. good softs, solid PS/LORs, 164 lsat first/only attempt. cum gpa of crap... 2.7, but good progression, from 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 (or close to that). political science and economics. basic addendum for GPA.
did my undergrad at UBC in Canada which I think helps diversify the student body. I am completing my apps in the next week or 2, so they will in very early.

reach:
fordham PT (would love full time but unlikely)
george washington PT (for some reason they've mailed me a LOT through the LSAC)
georgetown PT
UC Hastings
UC Davis

should be able to:
Loyola
Cardozo (they also sent me stuff through LSAC and waived the application fee)

Safety:
Santa Clara
Univ of San Diego

Basically I have checked Chiasu, LSAC chance calculator, and LSN. But that does not factor PT chances or other factors. Give it to me strait if you can say anything else! Particularly in regards to PT.

Law School Applications / Early Commitments
« on: September 29, 2009, 11:49:31 PM »
Hello,
Just wondering HOW these are so binding?
I think they are a nice tool that can increase acceptance odds if you're on the edge, so I don't want to waste it. But they still give you some time before you must send in your deposits. So how do they force you to withdraw your other applications? Can they report you to the LSAC or anything?
Or is it an ethical pull?

Cheers

Law School Applications / Top 40 Part Time?
« on: July 13, 2009, 01:51:20 AM »
What are some Top 40 schools that have *quite* easier admission standards for PT?

I have around 3.0 GPA and a 164 LSAT. I am on the edge (probably some Waitlists) at some schools around rank 40. Is there anything above that where my scores can give me a shot PT?

Non-URM but I am confident with my PS, and 3 LORs.
