There was one time I mistook someone as a girl I knew (sadly, not the rarest thing for me to do).  What made it especially awkward was that this girl was wearing a nice outfit and i said "you look so cute today!" thinking she was my friend.

then i realized it was not my friend...this girl looked terrified.

Can I interrupt this squabble to ask anyone who might have time on their hands to put a single call/fax/email into some relief agency (CARE, Save the Children, etc.,) or the state department asking for someone to start sending assistance to this orphanage:  Maison des Infants de Dieu ("For His Glory"), Delmas 31 # 32, Port au Prince.  The adoptive daughters of a LS prof/friend are there, and things are getting dire.  The squeaky wheel theory and all - make enough noise and it will stick.  Thanks to any and all who can help.

I e-mailed the state department.  My thoughts and prayers are with your friend and the children, as well as the people of Haiti.  I hope someone gets to them soon.

I have one friend who transferred from Hofstra to Georgetown, one from Cornell to Columbia, and one from Fordham to Columbia.  My friends are T14 whores.  I'm bucking that trend  :P

My point is that not impossible but you probably have to do really well.

My applications are getting held for further review left and right.

Held for further review >>>>>>>>> A rejection notice.

Very true.  Though I wonder when they will actually review them again.

Happy Monday everyone!

I had no idea who Liz Lemon actually was until last week...

LOL.  30 Rock is one of the best shows currently on TV.  I strongly recommend it if you have the time.

Law School Admissions / Re: Personal Statemet Restrictions???
« on: January 06, 2010, 01:52:31 PM »
How important is it to stay within the personal statement length restrictions set by the schools? I am finishing my PS for one of my reach schools and it's slightly over the limit. I don't want to cut anymore out of it but I certainly don't want to be disregarded over a 1/4 of a page. Thoughts?

I was told by one Admissions Director to always make sure I follow directions.  Law school adcomms are made up of people who can be severely type A and if they're having a bad day they might start to get bitchy if you fail to follow directions.  If you're only a 1/4 page over, i strongly recommend playing with spacing and margins.  Keep it readable and not obvious and no one will figure it out when you use 1.8 spacing instead of double spacing :)

Not sure where you live, but I got a Tahari suit at Loehman's and it makes me feel awesomely powerful.  I strongly recommend going outlet shopping if that's an option though, I have had a lot of success at brooks brothers and ann taylor outlets, and they are a lot cheaper than going to the stores in the mall.  Good luck, I'm sure you'll find something great!

Sorry if I offended you chuck. You are clearly going through a lot. You seem like a very patient and empathetic person, and I'm sorry you are enduring so much pain over the person you care about. it can't be easy on you and I did not mean to be insensitive to your situation. Certainly I did not mean to make my statement sound so simple. I hope that things get easier for you soon. Merry Christmas!

I'm finally cleaning up my apartment and finishing unpacking. It's much closer to getting to 100% which makes me happy. Instead of cleaning yesterday as I planned, I went to IKEA. I planned to just walk in, buy a dresser, and walk out. 2+ hours and hundreds of dollars later, I left.

One time my fiance (then boyfriend) and I shopped at IKEA for 3 straight hours then spent 35 minutes packing all of our crap into a car.  When I realized we did all of this without killing each other, I knew it was meant to be.  I strongly recommend IKEA shopping as a couples test.

Merry Christmas Eve to those who will be celebrating :)
