Financial Aid / Re: Wachovia anyone?

hey SanchoPanzo, could you confirm for me that MEFA is better for our school than wachovia? i guess i'm having a hard time seeing it but i'm just eyeballing the reductions. this is probably a totally dumb question, but i was starting to get excited on wachovia until i just read your post. lol

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: HLS

what are you guys doing for loans anyways? i think after looking around i find T.H.E. to have the nicest deals so far, but i talked to them and apparently hls didnt set up any preferences for them so i would have to go through actual paper for gradplus through T.H.E. (i still live in korea, so that would be quite a delay) i hate dealing with paperwork and anything practical, i must admit. :/ still looking i guess

wachovia also looks good (i think one of the things i like best about the is that repayment begins 9 months after instead of 6 like most other places).. i noticed Sancho said in the finaid thread that MEFA is better overall though.. hmm.. argh.. to me it looks like wachovia is better, but i'm not actually crunching any numbers.

Financial Aid / Re: Grad PLUS

thank you, melchior. i wish i'd been more savvy on this, but having lived in a foreign country for most of my non-childhood years and with parents who were equally un-savvy on credit issues, i totally neglected this and didn't even realize how important "credit" is in the States. all a bit daunting but hopefully i can also safely borrow the massive amounts of money i need to finance my year in hell.

ok, i'm ignorant and dumb of all these financial workings. i have no credit, and my parents don't live in the States, so i don't really have the means of obtaining a cosigner. do i apply for full stafford loans of up to 18.5k and then fill the rest of my need with gradplus? is that what a lot of you guys are doing? this may not be quite the right thread (what the @#!* am i supposed to be doing, sounds like a better title for me) but it's a useful thread so i'll post here and any good advice for someone truly lost would be amazingly appreciated. :)

Law School Applications / Re: Call from Harvard

maybe it isn't that their yield is low, but they were waiting for the composition of their class to boost diversity/stats from the waitlist pool, or to better control yield/acceptance rates by underaccepting and then picking ppl off the waitlist.

Nah - probably deferrals

why more deferrals this year than *average, though? :P

Certain sectors of the economy are doing better this year.

true. still who knows, i guess. a lot of waitlist acceptances in any case.

17! but i voted wrong.. i thought it was # of schools at first. haha

aren't you going to harvard?

Yes.

the composition of your application must be interesting.

it was a combination of having a really late app, and some wild card factors. mostly just being late i think. ah well..
