3L job search / Clerkships: State v. Federal
« on: July 14, 2011, 06:51:25 PM »
I'm applying for federal clerkships in SF (where I go to school), LA, DC, and NY. I have extern experience at NY state Supreme (trial level, there) and 9th circuit district court. I basically want to keep my geographic options open for the long-run and i'm wondering how much a state clerkship will limit my prospects if I decide to go somewhere else. Specifically, the judge I externed for in NY introduced me to an appellate level judge that he's very good friends with. he's been a wonderful reference for me, and i think i have a shot. but will i be "stuck" in ny? will chances of getting hired after that in CA be diminished? thanks

2L job search / Resume question re published decision
« on: July 28, 2010, 04:52:03 PM »
This summer I've been interning for a judge who's encouraged me to write several decisions. I was just told that one will be published in a very well respected law journal. I know I can write that I drafted decisions on my resume, but is there any graceful way to add this publication to the blurb as well? obviously, his name is on it and there was editing - maybe say drafted a decision which went on to be published in yadda yadda yadda?

so i'm at a lower ranked (T100) regional school in the area i'd like to end up practicing (SF), but I have an open invitation to transfer to a top 10 school in a very different city. are the city connections i'll get at my current school worth it enough to stay or is a top 10 enough of a door opener in most cities to be worth the transfer?

Where should I go next fall? / Santa Clara vs USF grade curve

I was wondering if it would be easier to maintain a higher GPA at Santa Clara or USF (for the sake of possibly transferring second year). I've heard that grade curves at both are pretty rough, but I can't figure out which one is maybe less rough.
