Thank you for your questions and comments.  Good show with the literary devices and your mastery of moral relativism. LOL.

"the question simply cannot be answered in a pluralistic and relativistic society..."

That's probably fair, but I think it could be reformulated slightly to deal with this problem.  The question might be rephrased as "Is working for BIGLAW immoral by your standards?" and/or "Is BIGLAW good for society as a whole?"

"so how does the OP expect anyone to answer this question with solidarity?"

I doubt the OP expects us all to agree.  In fact, discussion and the expression of differing opinions is probably the point.

"better yet, how does '4 post guy' think his opinion is going to receive any credence whatsoever on this board...?"

So the worth of someone's opinion is directly proportional to the number of posts that person has made?  That makes no sense to me.  In fact, there are a lot of people whose opinions are more valuable to me than those of any one who posts here despite the fact that they have and will never post on this board.

That comparison is crap, as you still assume that all corporations are inherently evil. Go away until you learn to actually argue.

ETA: thanks for backing me up guys ;)

LOL.  I apologize for overestimating your intelligence.  I won't make the same mistake twice.

So it would be perfectly fine to be Hitler's attorney so long as your biggest cases were Hitler's suits against Stalin and Mussolini?

Also, how hilarious is it that we are forced to spend hundreds of dollars on a case book in which probably 80-90% of the material is freely available to all via the public record?

There are people who get ahead by being dishonest, but that does not necessarily mean that all or even most people who are financially successful are dishonest.

A and B may simultaneously be true even if A does not necessarily imply B.

Anyway, we're not talking about "people" who get ahead... we're talking about lawyers who get ahead.  You don't become a fabulously wealthy lawyer by defending the innocent, poor and vulnerable from the guilty, rich and powerful.  You become a fabulously wealthy lawyer by doing the exact opposite.

Wow, both OP and Matthies... great posts.  I agree completely with both of you.

Of course it is.  Anybody who says otherwise is full of crap.

Look:  we are in a profession in which we get paid to make arguments, whether those arguments are morally right or wrong.  We make those arguments for the people who pay us.  Dishonest people make more money than honest people, that's just life in America.  Dishonest people pay us better than honest people.  We are the slimy, repulsive and disgusting handmaidens to the forces of darkness.

Just deal with it people. You didn't choose to become social workers or famine relief workers.  Stop lying to yourselves. You're not convincing any one.

I don't really understand that expression.  Would it really be a good thing to have warm smoke blown up your ass?  Why?
