Right now, I already mentioned it -- waiting on grades.  And all the undergrads in the Reading Room come exam time.

Your charm is boundless :)  Please tell me this worked enough to at least get a couple of datable (dateable?) prospects.

haha yeah, i got like 3 numbers with it, so it seems like it worked

Pimpin' ain't easy, Lindy.

I'm hoping so.  I got sick right before the final and everybody needed every last minute during it.  I couldn't think as quickly as normal (cold drugs)...which really screwed me.  I just keep telling myself -- C or above, C or above.

Yeah boo hoo, you probably got a B.  OH NOEZ!!!

;)

B would equal P, which I would be extremely happy with (as in jump for joy, loser-ish happy).  Michigan's pass/fail system is misleading.  They call it "limited grade option."  If you elect a class as limited grade, a C or above would earn you a P on your transcripts that has no effect on GPA.  C- or below gets you that grade on the transcripts and the grade is factored in to your GPA.  You only get a limited number of hours to use for limited grade election.

The one thing that does suck here is that it takes them FOREVER to get all of the grades in.  Argh.  Alright, I'm going to stop talking now.  I'm bringing the room down. :D

Thank you!!!  All your prayers/good wishes/positive thoughts definitely worked!  I'm so very excited ;D

Aww, I'm sure if they had any effect at all, it was marginal.  But I'm still waiting on my P/F grade...so keep me in your thoughts.

Your quid pro quo most of worked too -- that take home final I was nervous about?  A+ :)

And you were nervous?!?!  Dear Lord, that's pretty incredible!  Obvs your P/F class is going to be a gigantic P.

I really wish people of privilege would stop posting about AA without acknowledging the hand up they've been born with in life.  It's gratingly obnoxious.

I gotta say though, those drunks have it easy. I mean just because they can't handle their liquor they're supposed to get a leg up in the admissions process? Ridiculous. I wish I could just join a 12-step program and get 10 point added to my LSAT score.

I don't know who I hate more...you for making a joke or me for needing to read your post twice to get it.  Clearly my brain is not functioning at top end speed here :)

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Cost vs Prestige

Lucas, you have money from Michigan.  Either go there or leverage it against Vanderbilt or Duke to get money out of them (if possible).   Don't give up Mich, Duke, Vandy, etc. for a full ride at a school with far, far, far less placement prospects.  You never know what will change in law school...not going to one of these schools could close doors later.

I'm not saying this to disrespect UK or any of the other lower ranked schools you're considering.  You seem like a nice guy...the opportunities at the top end schools you are in at versus the full ride ones you are considering couldn't be more different.

2L here.

With in-state tuition, I'd vote decidedly for U of I.  In Chicago, firms (and maybe other employers too) will go further into U of I's class than they would at Kent.  My understanding from OCI was that the chain of command in Chicago looked something like this (not including HLS and other T14 schools which do not predominantly target Chicago):

Chicago > NW/Michigan >> Illinois > Other solid midwestern schools (Minn, ND, Wisconsin, Indiana-Bloomington, WUSTL, etc.) > Kent/Loyola/Depaul >>> NIU/JMLS.

Others may have different opinions, but this was the feel I got.  Even if you don't want to do firm work, my guess is that U of I will go further in a lot of areas.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: What are my chances at these schools?
« on: January 16, 2009, 08:37:17 AM »
Hello~ I am applying to bunch of schools right now. I have 3.6 GPA and 157 LSAT from a big public school. Do I have any chance at these schools?
Emory
Wisconsin
William and Mary
Loyola
Seattle
SUNY-Buffalo
Wake Forest
I am Asian but I came to US when I was about 15. I also have done a lot of extracurricular activities. I'm  wondering if Asians are considered minority by these schools since I heard so many times that there are too many Asians
in law school so we dont have the previliege of URM status. :P Anyways. Thanks in advance.

I think Asians don't qualify as URMs.  I'm not one-hundred percent sure on that...and if I'm wrong, these predictions are also incorrect.  In any event, my guesses:

Emory (Rejected)
Wisconsin (Rejected, unless state resident; if so, it could go either way)
William and Mary (Rejected)
Loyola (Chicago?  WL, Rejected)
Seattle (Accepted, maybe WL, Accept)
SUNY-Buffalo (Accepted)
Wake Forest (Rejected)

I'm curious about this too.  I'll have about a month after completing a ten week program and was thinking about volunteering with my small-town's local prosecutor.  Anyone else do this?  Would it even be helpful?  I'm going the big firm route, yet haven't ruled out the idea that someday I might want to do criminal prosecution.

I should probably just spend my time relaxing, but I'm a glutton for punishment.
