Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Tier 3 and 4 Aceptances and Rejections
« on: December 12, 2005, 06:12:03 PM »
When I try to do the online status check at Southwestern, it tells me that my name is not found. However, Loyola already sent me my student ID number in the mail and I can easily check my status (though I'm still listed as incomplete). I applied on 11/27 - so maybe I still have a couple weeks. I'm jealous of people already getting acceptances! :)

Loyola requested my report today (12/5).

I e-mailed Southwestern regarding when they would begin mailing out decisions (I believe someone on this board posted that it would be not until February) and they told me they would begin "quickly." (Whatever that means)

Law School Admissions / Transferring from Part time to Full time
« on: December 04, 2005, 08:54:49 PM »
Since I started applying to schools, I've been pretty much set on going part-time... however, recently my boyfriend decided that he would like to go to ucla to finish his degree. I know there's no chance in hell that I'm going to be admitted to ucla this cycle (though I did apply), but I've been considering a transfer... but does anyone know if it's possible to transfer from part time (maybe at Southwestern or Loyola) to full time at UCLA? My applications are already in (unfortunately with "part-time only" checkmarked) so I can't do anything from that standpoint. Maybe a year part-time and then a summer crammed with units would do it?

Anyway, any help would be appreciated :) Thanks!

I applied over the weekend, and everywhere else except for Loyola requested my report the next day! What I don't understand is why the online status check for Southwestern lists my name as "not found"... does this mean something is wrong? Or am I checking a little too soon?

Law School Admissions / Re: Anyone applying to Southwestern?

I'm also applying to Southwestern... The attorney I work for is a Southwestern grad, and she's really painted a nice picture of the school. That or Loyola are my top choices, with UCLA a far-off dream and Whittier a super-safety.

I ended up deciding not to retake the LSAT in December... good luck to you!! :)

Law School Admissions / Question about Units!
« on: November 10, 2005, 11:24:30 PM »
I've been working on applications and came upon a question asking for how many units I have... The amount of units that LSAC came up with is vastly different from what my actual units are (but we're on a quarter system, so it probably makes sense how they changed it). I think I went down from 207 to 107, 109? Anyway, my question is... what answer should I put on my application? The one reported by LSAC or the one on my actual transcript?

Hopefully this isn't a silly question to ask... it's late and my brain is in need of sleep!

I have 4 LORs in, still waiting on transcripts to arrive and PS to be written.

I guess I feel a little stupid not knowing this, but can I go ahead and submit my application before I retake the LSAT in December?

I feel like maybe I should've taken a year off like my dad suggested so I wouldn't feel so overwhelmed! Work + school + applications = yuck.  :-\

Law School Admissions / Re: How does LSAC calculate grades?
« on: November 01, 2005, 05:18:34 PM »
I've gotten a few A+s in my undergrad career (that didn't factor into my GPA at all) - does LSAC weigh A+s higher, or do they just count the same as an A?

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. Why do they even ask this question? To see how likely it would be that you would decide to enroll if admitted?

Law School Admissions / Re: Panicking since I tanked on the October LSAT

You're in at Southwestern. To be honest, you'll need like at least 164 on the second try to get into Loyola, since they average the scores and that will come out to be a 160, which is probably 1 or 2 points less than you need anyway.

Should I even bother taking it again? The deadline to register is tonight, and I haven't even started studying yet. (I really procrastinated for the Oct. test date, and didn't study except for a couple hours the week and day before)

One of the attorneys I work for is an alumnus of Southwestern and she wrote a targeted letter for me, so I'm hoping that'll help me out a bit. I want the evening program so I can continue working... stats-wise, it looks like that program is a little easier to get into as well. Hopefully you're right, Future. :) The area (LA) and the evening program are the things most important to me right now.
