Law School Admissions / Re: How does LSAC calculate grades?
« on: November 01, 2005, 02:44:00 PM »
Sorry, my friend, but LSAC throws everything into the mix, even grade replacment options. What's worse is that they don't convert CLEP or other test/pass-fail courses, thus dragging your GPA down. According to my UG institution, I'm a 3.25. LSAC says 2.95. Suddenly I don't look very competetive, nevermind that my last three years never dropped below 3.5 and my major GPA was 3.84! Dammit, Jim! I'm a man, not a punching bag!

Choosing the Right Law School / Gonzaga Opinions
« on: November 01, 2005, 12:43:32 PM »
Okay, peeps. I know it's tier 3 (or is it 4?) but what does everyone think of Gonzaga. I want honest opinions now, not off-the-cuff derisions based on rankings. I like Spokane and I'm hoping I get into either Gonzaga, Idaho, or Wyoming (or all three!). The Northwest attracts me and UW and Seattle aren't options at this juncture.

Law School Admissions / Re: Panicking since I tanked on the October LSAT
« on: October 31, 2005, 07:12:57 PM »
I wouldn't worry too much. You just have to market yourself! I got a 149 LSAT and a 2.95 GPA (according to LSDAS, though I beg to differ). I'm not too worried... All you have to do is highlight your work experience and show convincingly why you should stuy the law. Extracurricular activities help LOTS. The personal statement can cover a multitude of testing sins, low scores, etc. Try applying to tier two schools as well. I applied to New England School of Law, Western New England College School of Law, West Virginia, Wyoming, Idaho, Gonzaga, Cincinnati, and a few long shots. I even applied to Harvard, although I think I'll prolly get a note like NukeLaw's postcard joke... :( Oh, well! Remember, if it's ABA accredited, then you can take the bar anywhere. In the real world, it matters very little where you attend, as long as you pass the bar and know what you're doing. Law school is one of those things that you get out of what you put in...

I would highly recommend it, yes. I usually put it in the header of my WORD documents...

Law School Admissions / Grand Total Expenditures
« on: October 31, 2005, 01:03:57 PM »
Here's a question for everyone, one that perhaps will be painful to share...

How much has everyone spent on applications through the LSDAS?

I looked at my receipts for LSAC.org and a painful total of $899 came up. OUCH!!!! I had better get in somewhere for that kinda dough!

I'm sneaky. Anytime they ask for and addendum or supplement to the application, I tend to use it as extra space. Don't push it thought... Just a sentence or two...

Law School Admissions / Re: How long...

It took almost two weeks for my Cincinnati report to be requested from LSDAS, so I wouldn't worry too much. Wait another week before calling would be my advice. You have time...

Law School Admissions / Re: What to do during the lull?

I too am listless... I have all twelve applications sent in, and I feel both helpless and optimistic at once. Then again, the last time I felt so, I had made it to the final cut of a prestigious legislative internship with the Arizona House of Representatives. I even had an apartment lined up in Phoenix. Then they told me I wasn't black, hispanic, or female enough and told me to take a hike. All this after I had a recommendation from a U.S. Senator! DAMMIT!!!!!! CURSES!!! I kept the rejection letter to read when I'm depressed and feeling masochistic... ;)

I recommend "Sid Meyer's Pirates" for XBOX. Nothing says fun like looting and plundering the Caribbean!
