I think this sets the bar for wierdest post-OCI story: I just got a callback, in THE MAIL, from my top-choice firm, which I was certain had rejected me weeks ago but I didn't want to look. Wow.

You need to find a cabbie who's willing to agree, ex ante, to a fixed price. If someone doesn't want to do that, either 1) guilt them ("oh, come on . . . you don't want to make an easy buck? I'm just a struggling student") or 2) make up competition ("your buddie back there said it was $50, but I told him I could do better").
