Law School Admissions / Re: Undergrad Major (Engineering)?
« on: December 19, 2008, 06:22:01 AM »
In the end, the big thing is going to be what your GPA is, not what your major was. With that said, you might get a slight bump or special consideration from admission counselors who realize that your degree courses were more difficult than say basket weaving, but its not going to save you or your GPA. Especially if they are comparing you directly with another applicant with a identical GPA/LSAT, you might get the nod over the other applicant. But in general, the consensus is that it doesn't matter.

Law School Admissions / Darrow Scholarship Invitation
« on: December 10, 2008, 12:12:01 PM »
Just got an email from UMich inviting me to apply for the Darrow. Anyone else?

All that needs to be submitted is a 500-word essay. Seems simple enough.

Law School Admissions / Re: Safeties for 3.9/172?

How about validation posting from 176 and 3.95 freaking out over TS1 in early Nov?

Absolutely no reason to think you wouldn't get in Harvard at thanksgiving but you still kept posting messages to let people stroke your ego and had no qualms about it.

Get the right perspective folks. Everyone has irrational fears about this whole process. Your irrational fears were no more rational than the OP's. If it makes someone sleep a little better at night, than so be it. Isn't that what this board is for? Help people through the process.

You're safety should be Gtown. It could also be Duke, Cornell, UVA. Or all off the above.

You'll get into those no problem, as long as you don't wait until the last minute to submit apps. I have a 172 and 3.83. Already in at Gtown, Duke, UMich, and UC Berkeley. They were my safeties to begin with, so now just waiting to hear back from the schools that i'm really shooting for. You're scores are going to get you in the door at (at least) half the schools in the top 14, no problem. The rest, if you can put together a solid application you'll be fine (of course HYS will be your reaches, but who knows with those).

Good luck.

Yeah I put Truman finalist on my as well. I don't think will be a deal maker but it definitely doesn't hurt.

In at Berkeley via email today. Don't know why I didn't get the love last week with the phone call, but I'll still take it!  ;)

Status Check for U of Mich went to "decision" on 11/22. This early in the cycle,  I'm assuming its an acceptance, but won't update LSN until the letter has arrived at my house.
