To second that, some schools I got fee waivers from said that if I had already applied they would refund the money.

Some schools will email you.  Some (Virginia, Duke, Minnesota etc) will send you a username and password to their online application status checker.  Other schools you have to contact to see if you have gone complete.

This may sound dumb, but if you are kind of like "my career comes first, I don't understand why you would 'sacrifice'" then why are you even in the relationship to begin with.  I don't see it as a sacrifice, I just see it as what I need to do to be completely happy.
