Where should I go next fall? / Illinois v Iowa - Full tuition at both
« on: February 10, 2009, 10:29:02 AM »
Hi All -

So I am lucky to be in the position of having full tuition at both schools.

For a background, I don't want big law.  My interests are in public interest or government work.  If I were to work in a firm, I would want to work in a relatively small one.

Also, I do not want to work in Chicago. My SO has no shot at working there. I hope to work in either Iowa or Minnesota.

Is it a no brainer to choose Iowa then?  I just I'm just interested on feedback, especially from those who are attending/have attended those schools.

I'm looking into getting a lenovo (think pad) SL300.  It's pretty decently priced, small (13 inch) and thin.  Might be worth looking into?

The Monday isn't just for Saturday Sabbath observers.  For the June test, it's for everyone.

Has your status checker switched for Minnesota yet?  Mine went to under review on the about a week ago, so I am checking my mail relentlessly.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Anyone know anything about Iowa?

I'm from the midwest too, and am really considering Iowa as well.  I've went and visited, and have a lot of friends that go there, and from what I've seen I can tell you that guy is a tool. The class I sat in on was great, and the professor was the best out of other schools I have visited (of course, it's only one professor and I've only visited Notre Dame, Drake and Iowa, so take it how you want)

From what I have heard from people who attend there, Iowa is a more theory based school.  This could be good, as it's not like they are just working to get you a job in the midwest, like some more regional schools can.  I know they are really good if you want to go into teaching.  I know for what I am interested in I've looked at their placement in federal clerkships, and they do just as well as peer schools.

I think Iowa gets a bad rap because people favor the coasts, as there generally are more opportunities there.  From what I have heard from my friends there are still a great amount of opportunities for students, and Iowa is still pretty highly regarded in the midwest.

Hope that helps
