Job Search / Re: What to do if no-offered 1L year?
« on: September 02, 2008, 09:01:24 AM »
How does one handle call back interviews and questions if they were no offered by a firm during their 1L summer?  The firm no offered over a 1/3 of the class, but it still is a pain in the ass to deal with during interviews if and when it comes up.

Any advice?

idk, the firm didn't have the means to accommodate all the 1L's and provide them with offers.

goodwin is the best firm on your list, but kaye scholer is more established in ny.

do you have offers from all 3?  how long did goodwin take to get back to you?

had a callback but still waiting to hear back from goodwin

Job Search / Re: are there better days/times for callbacks?
« on: August 26, 2008, 06:45:46 AM »
So I have a few callbacks in a city I want to move to...I will do one on friday, and one on monday, as this works better with my school schedule and as I love this city and have people to visit. i won't even need a hotel. what i want to know is, what are thoughts on friday afternoon callbacks?? bad idea? i could go friday morning or friday afternoon. and what about monday?  i feel like monday morning, people are sad the weekend is over, stressde, etc. but that is based on interviewing in other industries.  again, i could go monday afternoon. the fternoon advanatge i see is that i sometimes stess out and have a hard time sleeping....so if i need to sleep til noon to be ready, i could, if the callback is at 2. Does any of this matter much in OCI? thanks!!

if youre doing a friday, i'd do it in the morning, but i guess really thats up to you. i did a monday am yesterday and nobody was sad..

Job Search / Re: callback questions

I've had two callbacks, and I have several more... I feel like I need to set myself apart. What are some questions you guys think to ask during the callbacks?

well, if you know the people ahead of time (unfortunately they didn't always let me know on my callbacks so far) and its in your field of interest, mention cases or something their working on and ask about it and then try and specifically relate it to your interests. i always try to ask associates about how they feel about the people they work with and working relationships with partners and other associates (not in those exact words)- i think thats really the most important thing you're trying to learn about the firm on the call back since you really already know about the practice area for the most part. maybe questions about formal training, pro bono, whatever. i like to concentrate on specific questions about the practice field and general questions about the atmosphere. im not so sure you need to set yourself apart in the callbacks, as much as you have to prevent yourself from looking awkward or snobby. best of luck, just be friendly and you'll be fine.

i got one by phone call 2 days after the callback. (they didnt/wouldnt give me a time frame at the interview other than as soon as they can) the others said 2-4 weeks...and i'm still waiting been about 1.5 weeks or so now
