I don't think it's proper to frame this argument in an anti-immigrant/pro-immigrant or anti/pro-illegal immigrant way.

There are quite a few issues at hand here. It's clear that many people oppose further mass illegal immigration. That doesn't mean they want the current illegals deported. Those issues shouldn't be conflated.

It seems to me that the mainstream argument has to do with under what system we keep the current illegals here and what should happen to limit illegal immigration in the future.

Well, As someone who is currently living in Hong Kong, and lived here through the SARS I am not really worried. If it happens it happens, but life goes on. I still get concerned calls from my relatives in the States, it seems like the media in the US makes a bigger deal out of it.

i don't agree with you that favoring gay rights but opposing immigrant rights is inconsistent, by the way.  it's all a question of interest.

That's what I say. It's all a question of prejudice. I'd just much rather people came to the point and said I don't like poor mexicans, than to hide behind flimsy argument.

I didn't realize it was time to play the "racist" card yet...

No - not being sarcastic. I am amazed at how right-wing this board is, not in any principled way but purely as a matter of selfishness: if it affects you, liberal; if it affects someone else, conservative to the extreme etc. I'd say 80- 90% of the board is that way.

Well you assume that Bonkers Jr. is against "immigration rights"(Not supporting emancipation for illegals doesn't make one against immigration rights...he may be fully in support of increased LEGAL immigration) and then generalize about people being conservative unless they're selfish.

Maybe "labeling" would have been better than "generalizing" bad...

Bonkers, jr

gay rights? Sure!
immigration rights? @#!* no!

What's the difference?

He's gay
He's in SoCal

It's nice to generalize about people you don't agree with, isn't it?

Back to the OP, I wouldn't say "this board" makes me feel like a conservative, but i would argue that when i look at what society tends to term a liberal, i certainly can't identify with, and same goes with what society tends to call a conservative.

CK Boxers

Still waiting as well.

Illegal immigrants

Drain on our resources who broke the law coming here .vs. A hard working part of the foundation of our society that we can't do without.
