Yeah, it has been my dream school for a long time. I got in off the waitlist, so believe me, good things can still happen.

[quote author=nolegirl3 link=topic=34909.msg560977#msg560977 Maroon Glad I am not the only crazy person who turned down the chance to spend three years in NO. Where did you decide? Notre Dame.

Congrats on the decision.
I had a similar experience as you when I visited Tulane. The environment just didn't feel right, for many of the reasons you listed. However, I really did fall in love with New Orleans. I just can't seem myself living there.
In the end, everything tends to work out. Good luck with the waitlist.

I don't know if it helps any, but I got off the list on Tuesday. Thus, they are probably still accepting people.

Did you put your deposit down at Tulane?
No.

Do you know how many more students will be accepted in the second round?
Rumor has it that 15-20 more people will be accepted. However, I haven't spoken to the adcoms personally about it.

I was accepted off the waitlist today with a 3.6 and a 163. I do have some decent "soft" factors (president of several organizations, student government, currently working for a law firm, etc). However, I think the thing that really helped me was persistence. I tailored the ending of my PS for Notre Dame. After I was deferred from ED, I sent in an additional letter of rec., an updated resume and a letter of continued interest. When I was put on the waitlist, I sent an e-mail and another letter of interest. The length of my correspondence decreased throughout the process. I basically sent any major updates and tried not to repeat myself about anything except that Notre Dame was my first choice.
Maroon. are you attending?
I'm pretty sure I am. I want to see if I can get some money out of them first, but Notre Dame was my first choice to begin with, so I will most likely end up there regardless.

Good, maybe some of that 20k you turned down will float my way...they said they are waiting to see the availability of funds for fellowships and would let me know in the next few days. Fingers crossed.
When did you get accepted?

May I ask how you were notified?
E-mail. It said they were over-nighting an acceptance package. congrats--are you planning on attending?
Most likely, yes. However, I'm going to see if I can get any money out of them.
