Exactly!  I've had many attorney's at Big Law firms tell me that schools such as St. John's in New York (which has a massive alumni pool) used to have a better rep before the USN&WR rankings came out because of the school's regional reputation.  Now, you have schools matched up nationally which can produce a lower ranked school as being subpar.  Interesting stuff!

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Valparaiso????????

Ahh, cool!  Exactly, I am from Florida and just might go to one of the state schools and pay $6-8K a year for tuition.  I'd rather take a loan out on that than $40K (tuition plus housing), especially for a school such as Valpo.

Thank you again for responding to my inquiry and best of luck to you!

Pardon my ignorance, but what the heck is L+C?  Loyola-Chicago?

Thanks again for your insight and experience.  Valpo didn't give me a cent, just sub. and unsub. loans, so no real incentive to go there now.

Did you end up graduating from Valpo?  If so, where are you now?  If not, did you transfer, and if so, where?

By the way, this was by far the best advice I have received on this freakin' message board.  I cannot thank you enough.

Haha, good lord!  Can you share some of your experiences?

I think it's a given that the top 14 schools have ALWAYS been the top 14.  I should clarify my question and ask what about the rest of the 180+ schools (granted, some of them are fairly new)?  How were they "classified" by the legal community without the USN&WR?

For hypothetical purposes, lets say there were only 100 law schools 25 years ago (I have no idea, just shooting off the top of my head) and lets NOT TALK ABOUT THE T14 SCHOOLS FOR ONE MOMENT ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD (sheesh!), how did firms match up a Wisconsin versus an Illinois, or a Washington-St.Louis versus University of Texas?

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / What Did Everyone Do Before USN&WR??

I'd be interested to know what everyone did before USN&WR began it's reign on all of us applicants?  How did the law firms match up all the applicants?  Were the LSATs weighed so heavily back then as they are now?  Etc. etc.?  Not a brain buster here, just curious.

What's the deal with Valparaiso (Jerry Seinfeld impression)?  They've been around for like 129 years and still can't get their crap together?   I see the Bar passage rates are pretty good but the employment rate isn't too hot.  I also heard their 1st year grading is a nightmare.

Anyone have any thoughts/opinions on why Valpo is so crummy?  Yes, I got in there, but just wondering if it is worth pursuing any further at this point.

What's the deal With Valparaiso?  Why is it only a T4?  It's been around for 129 years and hasn't been able to clean up its act?  Has pretty good bar passage rates and employment rate is ok.  Anyone have any real thoughts about this.  Thanks.
