Berkeley last Friday

Does anybody know how long it takes to hear back from the Family Student Housing people after they receive your application and fee?

well, hopefully I'll clear up a spot.  I've paid my full deposit but am fixing to withdraw and go elsewhere.

Wow, I was actually just about to start a similar thread, because I've got a question. My mom wants to give me a watch for my graduation present, and is going to let me pick it out.  I've tried on some Breitlings and some Omegas, and I'm between the two brands.  I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either brand, or an opinion as to which one is "better"?  From what little I know, and from what I've seen, it seems like there isn't really a difference in quality as they're both excellent watches.

Basically, I just want a watch that will last for a long, long time.  Anyone wanna help me decide?

Well, I don't think you can go wrong with either but if I was choosing I would pick an Omega Seamaster.  Those watches can do everything and will last you forever.

Transferring / Berkeley vs. Columbia
« on: July 01, 2008, 12:40:33 PM »
Hey guys last week I was accepted to Berkeley and am going to need to make a decision on that very soon.  I have also already been accepted to Georgetown, however, I think I would prefer to go to Berkeley.  I applied to various other schools but the only ones that I am considering over Berkeley are Harvard, Stanford, or Columbia.  Don't really think I have much of a chance at HS but do think have a pretty good chance at Columbia.

My main question is does anybody think that in the long term there are really any distinct advantages to attending Columbia over Berkeley.  I am not really worried about short term job opportunities as I already have my dream job lined up in New York and Texas for next summer.

I've discussed this with several attoneys and they seem to say that it doesn't really matter what school you go to when you attend such a top school.  They pretty much said just go to whereever you will enjoy yourself the most.  Wondering if anybody else out there has had to make this decision and discussed it with somebody knowledgeable on the subject.

And if it makes any difference my interest is in corporate transactional work.

Thanks for the replies and any insight you could provide.

Cartier Roadster that I received as a gift.  I love this watch because it is one of the few (if not only) high end watches that you can switch the bracelets out.  Can go from a stainless steel bracelet, to brown leather, to black leather (or anything else that suits you but those are the bracelets I have).  Might very well be the only luxury watch I ever own.

Still have my trusty Timex though for when I'm hiking, biking, kayaking and that sort of thing.

First off, Congratulations.  That is great to hear.

I was curious as to when you went complete and if they notified you by email or what not when your application was complete?  Thanks and best of luck with the move..
I do not know when I went complete.  The only notification I got was a phone call followed by an email offering me admission.  Good luck!

Thanks I was accepted on Friday myself.  Have you gotten the packet of information yet?

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Berkeley???

Yeah, its a tough decision.  I have already been admitted to Georgetown and really like that school.  Berkeley though would be such a fun place to study law and in a great area.  I'm conservative so that makes me a little apprehensive but have been told that it really isn't as big of a deal as it is made out to be.  Anyways, I think it is fun to be in a liberal environment as it really makes you think and get your beliefs challenged.

I kind of would like to be able to see if I get accepted at any  of the other schools I applied to (Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, Chicago, Penn, NYU).  We will see but Berkeley sounds like such a great place though.  Thanks for providing your input.

Hey guys.  I was just admitted to UC Berkeley and am having a little bit of a tough time deciding whether I should accept or not.  I was admitted as a transfer student and the only thing holding me back is that I have a strong interest in international corporate work.  When I think Berkeley public service and environmental law are what come to mind.  Is there a current student or somebody very familiar with the program who could elaborate on the strength of their corporate program?

The only other thing that is really holding me up is that they make you decide within 48 hours of receiving the packet of information.  That probably means I have to make a decision prior to hearing from my top picks, Columbia, Harvard, or Stanford.

Thanks for all the help.
