General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: YLS 2010

Everyone on here seems to be doing the Access group for loans, what about the Gate Y loans? I just figured they might be easier since they are administered by Yale. Also, I'll be living in a building called Howe Place, they are pretty close to campus and have good rates. It was highly recommended by a current student, who also said the Towers are awful. The reviews seem to be mixed on the Towers, however.

I like the towers (Madison is the one I have personal experience with). Fairly cheap for lots of space. They're old, but management tends to be responsive to problems (for example, we had issues with our shower leaking, so they replaced the "painted" shower floor with tile, and they replaced our old oven with a pretty cool new gadget-y one without our asking). I've seen some really well-decorated, nice looking apartments in the Towers. On the other hand, our cat killed a mouse in the apt. a few months ago (the first evidence of mice we've ever seen, but there it is).

As for loans, I use Gate-Y. I'm not sure how it compares to the others, though, because I actually had no choice but to use Gate-Y (I'm an int'l student). I've had no problem with loan disbursements so far, and Yale Finaid has been incredibly helpful and responsible.

To Yale? We all know that, Stan. 50%, no matter the numbers.

PSA: I now have an official YLS license to answer 0L questions. (Someone at the student affairs office had a few too many and decided I'd make a good Dean's Advisor- sort of like a tour guide/general resource person for 1Ls- for the '10 class). I'm way excited. :P

Hi yourself!  Long time no see!

How've you been?  I'm moving to NYC in August, so we should all plan a meetup.  That is, if Annabel's not sick of me after this summer.   :D

Busy. Tired. Excited about Spiderman III tonight. :P You?

Let's do NYC in the Fall, definitely.

Uhm, AL, what about those of us who marry Yale grads too? That's gonna be one lonely, horny milkman... :-[

I'd be surprised if either of the Sureshs had powers, mostly because I assume Papa Suresh would have started off by testing himself and his kids if they had the requisite genetic marker.

As for Ando, I actually think it's better for the storyline if he DOESNT have any powers. It makes the sweet friendship/protective thing he has with Hiro even sweeter, and it makes his willingness to go into such dangerous/potentially deadly situations even more noble, since he knows he doesn't have any "specialness."

his dead sister did...

You mean Mohinder's dead sister? I'm still not sure what I think about that...Papa Suresh was talking about it at some point, and he seemed to hint that her "genetic mutation" was cancer or some similar disease that killed her, which is why he now searches for the positive manifestations of that kind of mutation. Then again, they were keeping it deliberately mysterious, so maybe she DID have a power. If she did, I think that would bolster my conclusion though, because Papa Suresh would definitely have tested Mohinder for the genetic marker and would have definitely told him if he had it. And even if Papa Suresh hadn't done it, Mohinder himself would probably have gotten curious by this point and checked himself out.

In another, somewhat unrelated note, I'm wondering about all the people who might have died without ever triggering their powers...like, for example, Claire seemed to develop her power pretty early on in life, but we know that people like Nathan and Peter didn't trigger theirs until much later, so theoretically they could have died young and never figured out what they were capable of.  :-\

And I thought when Peter was thought to have attempted suicide in the early episodes, Mama P said that their father's death was really a suicide.

Oh, wow, that's right. I'd totally forgotten that!

As for Hiro being in Linderman's justice league, I don't remember, but I like to think that Papa Nakamura, Mama Petrelli and Linderman were all running around together when they were younger.

Hiro's dad is definitely at least involved, since he was the one that gave Claire to Bennet back when she was a baby. He at least KNOWS people with powers exist...and I wouldn't be surprised if he has them himself.
