General Board / Re: Single Parent starting Law School

I dont really have much useful info to add to this topic but I know that a few law schools, like Southwestern in Los Angeles, have full programs (as an alternative to FT/PT) that cater to single mothers (class scheduling, time management, peer groups etc).  Also, I give you ladies credit for going ahead and pursuing law school in spite of everything else you have to deal with.  Bravo!

General Board / Prospective law school student seeking HELP!
« on: March 01, 2006, 11:39:15 PM »
Hello everyone,

I have just graduated from Rutgers UG a few months ago and will end up at a T2 of some sort this August.  Since I have quite a bit of time till I start law school, I would like to get ahead of the game by beginning my studies now.  Specifically, as soon as I figure out which school I will attend for sure (hopefully within the next month), I want to purchase the required readings for 1L courses and begin reading/outlining them as soon as possible.  This way, much of my 1L work will be review and, as a result, comprehension and memorization will be much easier.

Although this strategy may seem compulsive and superfluous, it is a direct consequence of a debilitating LSAT experience, which crushed my chances of admission to either of my dream schools (UCLA, USC).  Hence, my only chance at salvation now is nailing a transfer and since it requires a top 10% T2 showing, I need to do whatever it takes to give me an edge.

So, my question to you guys is: How do I find out which books I will need for my 1st semester of 1L?  Is this even possible?  I heard that 1L classes usually consist of the same general courses, so can I just look at the schedule of classes for last August?  Do different teachers use completely different books, or are the court cases and texts fairly consistent?  PLEASE help me by posting any advice you can give.

Thanks,

Nick.

jer, I'm really sad I'm leaving Miami and can't go to the A&M game in September.   :'(

Same here (about leaving the bay area). I think the first thing I do when I move will be planning a party for the Cal-Tennessee game.

I was looking into meeting the brit in Tallahassee for the Miami-FSU game, but a flight from South Florida to Tally that weekend is well over $400.  Flights from NYC were under $300.   :'(

I think I'll just come down for the Georgia Tech game, and I'm planning on going to the Oklahoma game.   ;D

I'm also gonna join the alumni network in NYC.  I read that they have game-watching parties.

i'm willing to take the 7 hr drive to tally for the game, but i have a feeling scalped tix will run over $300.

by the way, what do u guys think about a rutgers UG alum and football fan supporting the Canes as his #2 team cuz thats the home of his law school??  my ru buddies are giving me lots of greif.

Chica, you guys lost your safety? Any worthwhile backups?

Our "backup" is only the #1 safety in the country:

Reddick was always shaky in the health department but he was probably our most versatile defender and we'll miss switching him out of the nickel / dime packages.  But I dont think he would have beaten out Lovon Ponder for the number two safety slot.

Comparing FSU to Duke in football is like comparing the Boston Red Sox to the Bad News Bears.

I anxiously await FSU to have another "bad" season.

How can i get tickets to miami at fsu dammit!?!

And Chica - I will decide my favorite Cane when i actually see them in the flesh.         Rutgers' spring game was pretty cool, I will miss them.  (attendance: 11,000 haha)

Did you call 1-800-GO-CANES like I told you?

Yeah... they don't sell away game tickets and the Seminole box office is completely useless.  I'll probably get them off Craig's List or something.  So when are you coming to NYC anyway??
