You aren't necessarily screwed. Since you interviewed right before the holidays, it's possible the hiring committee hasn't even met yet. You will just have to sit tight and wait. If you haven't sent thank-you emails yet, you should send them now - that would be a good way to follow up. Otherwise, if you already sent thank-yous, it is acceptable to send a "want to see where you are in the hiring process, still very interested, etc" email two weeks after the interview. Perhaps in this case, since it's the holidays, you could wait a bit longer to follow up - maybe the week of January 7th. In the meantime, keep working whatever other job leads you have.

Do callback interviews always include lunch/dinner? Is it the sort of thing they always tell you in advance when you schedule your interview, so that you would know before your callback that lunch would be a part of your day? Or is lunch something that is only included for "preferred" candidates? Any insight is appreciated. Have people had callbacks where they just do the interviews and then are free to go, with no lunch?
