.. sucks to hear so many bad things about the city, but I dont have much of an option now.

so... is anybody selling 1L books?. anyone recommends a place to buy used books?
is that law textbook reservation program any.. good?.. if i can get the books cheaper somewhere else, i rather do that. any advise?

Don't listen to what bashers have to say about Syracuse. Yes, the city is extremely ghetto, but the reality is the tuition at Syracuse and your employment prospects coming out of Syracuse will be pretty much the exact same as most other T2/3 schools out there. I have friends at T1 schools and their job prospects and placement are only fractionally better than Syracuse. The reality is, there is not some magical distinction between law schools that helps you get a fabulous job over grads of other schools. Unless you are at an Ivy League caliber school at one end of the spectrum, or a bottom feeding garbage heap at the other end, your career path right out of school is largely determined by grades, connections, and sheer luck.

Anyways, in regards to textbooks; they are a huge racket. In my opinion, you should purchase your textbooks used online, preferably a two or three year old edition. You will save hundreds and hundreds of dollars, and honestly, the two or three cases your two year old book doesn't have you can read online for free. Remember this, when you graduate, you will have a debt load of around 150K, unless you are on scholarship. Amortizing that debt over years of payback magnifies every extra dollar you spend. I would highly advise purchasing used books online, I wish I would have my first year, I could have saved a ton.

As a 2L at a T3 school, I too worry about my job prospects. However, it should also be remembered that BigLaw has an incredibly high turnover rate, according to an article I read last month in www.slate.com, 80% of BigLaw new hires quit within five years. Plus, for what it's worth, I have a few buddies who graduate from top 20 schools, and half of them hated their big law jobs and quit within two years to work in government, solo practices, etc. The thing I try to remember is that when I graduate I will still be in my 20s, and when I just think about my Dad for example and how many different jobs he has had in his life so far, it makes me a lot less nervous. Regardless of how much money you are making when you first graduate, chances are you will only work at that job for 5 years max.

I am class of 09' at Syracuse. In my opinion, the school is fine, the city is the problem. The city of Syracuse is incredibly ghetto, and can be a bit depressing. Other than that, I have had a few professors that suck, but I am sure you will get that any other comparable school. The attrition rate from what I have seen is probably typical for any other tier 2 / 3 law school, a few bums will drop out, but it's really nothing to worry about as long as you actually do the work and prepare for the finals.
