Financial Aid / Financial Aid, Fafsa, Loans, etc. all summed up
« on: February 04, 2006, 03:15:42 PM »

Ok so basically I need someone to expain this process to me because I'm hearing different things from different people.

So far I've merely sent in the FAFSA form (online).  A general report (basically a copy of what i sent) is now visible on their website but it doesn't say exactly what I qualify for with regard to loans (i'm assuming i will not qualify for grants) I should also tell you that I sent it in a few weeks ago. My question is, does the amout of federal loans you qualify for change depending on the school?  Does each school send you a separate amount you'd qualify for from FAFSA.  I've only been accepted to one school so far...what if I don't hear from the school that I actually end up attending til April...or worse August (if i'm waitlisted)...how will I be awarded the aid in time?  When should all of this start coming in?  When do people start applying for private loans (like Sallie Mae)?  Also, there is only room for 6 schools on the FAFSA...do I have to wait til I hear from a "better" school than one of my safeties and then make changes to the form, subsituting the safety for another school?  Please help me with as much of this as you can.  Thanks.

Where should I go next fall? / Called Cardozo Admissions Office
« on: January 30, 2006, 12:17:16 PM »

For those of you who are applying to the May part-time program at Cardozo, a woman in the admissions office told me today that they have recently begun reading those files, and that we will probably hear in 2 to 3 weeks.  Yikes!

Where should I go next fall? / Help with Letter of Continued Interest
« on: January 18, 2006, 10:27:34 AM »

I'd like to send a letter of continued interest to Rutgers Newark as I was recently deferred.  I have already arranged for an additional LOR to be sent, and for my updated transcript to be released.  Does anyone have a sample of a letter of continued interest that I could look at?  Is there a previous post with one on it?  I did a search, but came up with nothing.  Thanks.

Wait List / Deferred at Rutgers!!!
« on: January 12, 2006, 11:52:06 PM »
Anyone know the deal with being deferred there?  People generally get accepted after being deferred?  Is it better than being waitlisted?  Any stories of people getting in that you know of?  Should I send extra stuff? I'm pretty bummed.  I have a 153 average LSAT (150+156), but a 3.9 GPA, double major, and a decent amount of soft factors. Non-URM.  I'd be willing to go there part time even though I've been deferred for full-time.  Should I call the school and mention this to them?  Please let me know your thoughts.  Thanks. :)

I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of anybody being offered part-time although denied full-time at Rutgers (Newark).  Some other schools do that.  Thanks in advance.

Acceptances / What happened to Rutgers?
« on: January 10, 2006, 11:58:18 PM »

Has anyone (who obviously isn't LSN registered) heard from Rutgers (either denial or acceptance) in the past month?  It seems like things have been pretty quiet over there.  Also, does anyone know if Rutgers has ever been known to offer people part-time admission if denied full-time?  Thanks in advance.

Law School Applications / Send Extra Stuff?
« on: January 08, 2006, 05:45:13 PM »
Ok so I haven't been waitlisted anywhere or anything, but I also haven't been accepted or rejected anywhere (sent my apps end of November).  My question is, should I send additional materials like an updated transcript with this past semester's grades.  I got a 4.0 this semester.  I also know a professor who would love to write me another recommendation.  What do you all think?  Thanks.
