I just wanted to start a thread up for the Miami class of 2010. If this has already been started, someone point me in that direction; LSD's search is horrible and useless at best...
Otherwise, it would be cool to get a feel for where everyone is from, where they went to undergrad, how they are planning on paying for school, and where they are planning on living in Miami if they are looking or have found a place. I'm basically looking for one thread to tie together all those other threads for people that are certain, or very certain they are going to Miami in the Fall.
I suppose I'll start; I'm currently a resident of Nevada working with as a technical editor on patents with a patent attorney. I graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Political Science in 2006. I'm going to be above my head in debt to the government with federal loans once I am done with school at Miami. Lastly, I'm headed down to Miami around the middle of May to find a place close to the school or a metrorail stop.
Looking forward to hearing from future Cane's!!!

So as I sit here waiting on the school of my dreams to get back to me, I thought of a genius way to use my time...Go on a shaving strike...
I would give up food, but I'm no Ghandi.
Anyone else up for a Shaving Strike/Beard-Off?
I'm not going to shave from now, until I get a decision from my top choice school, who is with me?

Anyone know where to do searches that actually work? I'm looking to search for topics based on a certain school and I end up getting a thousand hits based on the signature people have that includes the schools they got accepted or rejected to.

So the general consensus seems to be that USC sucks, but your job prospects within SC are AMAZING...which in the end cannot be ignored. We're all going to law school to eventually get jobs right?
Glad to hear such positive things about Mercer, it may be 100 on the 2008 US News listings, but all I hear are good things.

I'll have to agree with everything you said about being a student at Mercer vs. USC. Honestly, that is one of the biggest draws of USC for me. Talk about being essentially "made" in SC, you attended the only law school in the state with ABA accreditation! Now I know that is not an excuse to be at the bottom of the barrel at USC, but I can only imagine that a student in the middle of USC would do much better in job interviews in SC, than a student in the middle of the class would do from Mercer at a job interview in GA.
Also, talk about direct competition, for the most part the people you will be competing for jobs against would be sitting right next to me in class, or even more of a plus, that same person next to you might be helping you out later in your career.
I suppose it is just a huge selling point to go to USC as it is the only state school in the state. You might have competition from out of state schools, but it wouldn't be like going to Mercer and competing against Emory, UGA, and Georgia State.
The sad part about these posts is SC only has one law school and the general consensus seems to be that the facilities suck...Florida has three state schools and is able to keep two schools with facilities in much higher regard than USC.
Blah...questions...being destroyed by answers...only to give rise to more questions...

So I am faced with a huge decision...just like everybody here.
I'm deciding between Mercer, South Carolina, and Miami.
I know a decent amount about Miami, and have visited the city, but I don't know anything about Mercer or South Carolina.
Mercer is rated pretty good, but do the facilities keep pace with South Carolina? I've heard that South Carolina has some pretty old buildings, but honestly that doesn't bother me at all if the faculty is first rate.
I would like to work in Florida...No State Income Tax!!!, but I really do not want to stay in Miami. I was looking and the cost of living is absolutely through the roof.
I'm just looking for a general discussion about mostly South Carolina and Mercer, there is material all over about Miami, but barely anything about Mercer and South Carolina.
Thanks in advance everybody!
