Transferring / Re: Questions about transferring to NYU or Columbia
« on: January 27, 2008, 08:52:38 PM »
I have a similar question.  I have a 3.946 at University of Pittsburgh (ranked 57) and am currently just shooting to get into GULC EA because never know what second semester grades are going to be like.  If I can maintain a GPA around where I am at do you think I would have a chance to jump to a school like NYU or Columbia or is that too much of a leap.  Thanks.

I appreciate the responses, but for the love of god, I don't expect my current gpa to be my final one! I'm asking you, from where I stand now, what CAN I do to get into another school? For example, if I up my GPA to a 3.6, would that be enough you think for certain schools? I don't know the stats at the other schools or what your guys' experiences have been. I am certainly not transferring after one semester if that's what you are assuming. Are there any other things I can do to help my cause?

In the maantime, I'll take a look at the yahoo group. Thanks.

You aren't very friendly for asking other people for help. And there are some schools that consider you with only one semester of grades.  My advice is that if you want to transfer do as well as you can and that opens up the most doors.

I am in the same situation as you.  I applied to GULC and have been told by professors that I received the highest grade in the class but CALI awards haven't been officially announced.

I was planning on doing what the previous poster mentioned.  Just send a cover letter stating why you are sending the letter with and updated resume.

1L job search / Weird Day
« on: February 05, 2008, 06:38:35 PM »
So I got an email today from the firm I wanted to work at since I was like 12.  It was just a general email saying they didn't hire many 1L's so sorry.  I sent a quick email back saying thanks for the consideration and what not.

I then got a call from the firm saying that they sent me that email by mistake.  They said I should be receiving a call from the recruiting coordinator soon.

Any ideas on how positive this might be.  I figured if they were gonna offer me an interview they could of done it when they called and told me there was a mistake.  I am very excited and a little confused.  Any ideas on what to take of this situation.  I have a really good connection at this firm that is helping me out so I am hoping that they aren't just going to call to say no politely.

Yeah I was told to mention any connection you have with DC.  Can't hurt.  This is what I attempted to do.

I think you have a decent chance.  Great if you didn't go to American but perusing the database on transferapps it seems that it is tough to get in from American.  I have been told your UGPA and LSAT don't matter for GULC or any of the other schools you mentioned for that matter.

I think you have a decent chance.  Not really sure though but I would think the more grades you have better.  I am in the same boat.  I have 4 grades. A+, A, A, A- for a 3.946.  One would think that the more classes that you can show you did well in the better off one is.

I did both.  Included Reasons for transferring and then just attached my original personal statement.  Depends on the school somewhat as well.  Some mention specifically what they want.
