I did the same thing w/ my personal statement.  I wrote a 4 page statement and had a 2 & 3 page version.  I also modified the last paragraph for each school.  Just make sure you send the right one to the right school.  I hear that is a common and embarassing mistake!!!   :-[

You are NOT a loser!  You're a Midwestern hero!  I grew up in WI but I am here in Cali right now...stuck...at work.

Please clarify: Is it pathetic that I envy you?

The only bright spot for me is that 6 days from now, I am quitting my job and going to Rome.   ;D :D ;D

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Hastings v. 3rd tier with $$$
« on: June 17, 2004, 09:07:16 AM »
I agree with the previous post.  This is hardly a rush move to Cali.  I have moved at least 15 times in the past 6 years...piece of cake.

I am going to Hastings, so I may be biased, but I would definitely say, go to Hastings.  It will afford you many more opportunities and pave the way for an excellent career.  I think anyone can succeed from a third tier as well...it is just more difficult.  In the grand scheme of things, if you come out making 125K, this difference won't mean much to you.  If you come out of a tier 3 making 70K, well, it will make up the difference in the first year.

PS  I would also evaluate where you want to practice.

I had a friend who was in grad school while I was in undergrad.  When he found out I was going to be making 35K right out of college, he was amazed!!! That is pathetic.  There is lots of ignorance in undergrad.

Best of luck to you all on your careers and ls.  One of my best friends dropped out because he hated it.  That is why I started this thread.

I don't mean to imply that Office Space land would be very similar to being a lawyer.  However, starting your first real job, no matter what kind it is can be really hard.  I wonder if sometimes, people hate being a lawyer because it is their first true job experience.

My office is hysterically close to Office Space.
Don't forget to send the GKQ letters along w/ the GKTs.  Seriously.  Cubicles.  Crazy people that the company loses.  It has ALL happened here.  I know it isn't all like this, but I would be disheartened if this were my permanent future.

I will definitely be selective post law school to avoid holes like this.  And yes, I work for a large company.....Forture 50.

Why is corporate work horrible--have you SEEN Office Space?  Yeah, it exists.
