3L job search / Re: Rejected?
« on: October 12, 2006, 01:53:52 AM »
Well if you are interested in joining securties, you should check out the NASD and SEC.  They are always looking for staff attorneys, and if you do well, there are lots of opportunities to go work for the brokerage houses and get P-A-I-D!

The most important thing is stay possitive. You still have a great degree and if you pass the bar, you will be very marketable.

Wish you the best of luck,  hope you find something soon.

3L job search / Re: What kind of $ are solo practitioners making?
« on: October 11, 2006, 07:31:16 PM »
HAHA that last post is hilarious/ridiculous.

I have worked in BIGLAW and boutique law.  I can honestly say that a successful sole practitioner makes just as much if not more than many attorneys at BIGLAW firms.  On the other hand, Learned Hand is correct in saying that the business side/BS is a headache.  Accounting, people quitting on you, firing people, hiring people, marketing yourself, etc.  It is tough being your own boss, but if you can hack it, the rewards can have unlimited potential.

Ouch, sorry to hear that.

Was that the only firm you worked with/for during law school?  You might have to dig a bit to find some prospects.  What part of the country are you in?

Detroit Mercy / Re: UDM fall 2006???

I am currently working/living in California, but I am from PA.  I like Michigan and think that it would be a great place to practice.  Hopefully I will be out to Detroit to take in the school first-hand.

I am also applying to Widener, Indiana U @ Indianapolis, Michigan State, Drexel ,Duquesne & Loyola NO.  I am looking forward to going back to the Midwest or northeast.  It will be a nice change of pace, I have been in CA for 4 years.

Thanks for the info on the school.  It is one of my top choices because it is in a metropolitan area and I hear that summer jobs are available if you do well academically.

Keep me posted as the semester continues.  I would like to hear more about the school.
