Awwww... Slad :-[ Realy?
So if you like Vandy this weekend, then that's it for you?

Yes m'am.  It's a little childish, but I think I've made a good case of why I'd be worth the extra 3K per year, and UT said "no thanks".

i kind of just jumped into this thread, so i apologize if this is redundant but:
texas has a scholarship matching program that seems to be very worthwhile. they gave me nothing, and then i sent scholarship letters from other places (WashU, Emory, Iowa, etc.) and they gave me a sizeable amount.  not sure if you've looked into this yet.

Thanks pea!  I did submit Vandy's offer, and hopefully they will match it.  If they do, the choice is easy.  I should find out by the end of this week.

UPDATE:  They didn't match it.  I'm so bummed right now.   I was really, really hoping I'd end up at UT, since moving is a pain.  I'll be visiting Vandy this weekend, and if I like it, I'm withdrawing from UT.

I met a lot of other prospective students who seemed pretty laid back, and (sadly) had ZERO gunners in my mock-class.

Ha!  You were just in the wrong mock class.  The dude in front of me had researched some of the issues in the case and written out excerpts from the code which he later quoted to the professor ;D

Law School Applications / Re: UCLA...Anyone still waiting...WTF!

You're drafting a letter to withdraw?  I thought you can just e-mail them a short little note.

I'll e-mail them my letter  ;D  I want to do more than a short little note, because they've been wonderful to me and went above and beyond to help me learn more about the school and their programs.  Truthfully, I just can't bring myself up to do it yet - I had such a good time there yesterday.   Maybe after lunch.

I totally agree with all the logic here, except..... There is no deposit at UCLA and the first 'notification' deadline isn't unil May 31!! I think those of you still waiting will get some kind of initial decision, and those on the WL will benefit from their strange policies this year.

Really? I had no idea. That's crazy. SoCal just has to be lazy and obstinate, eh?

Well, that's what I heard from someone who'd been accepted. I'd really like it not to be true, so if anyone has any other dates, I'll gladly be corrected!!  :)

I had to send in a scholarship acceptance form two weeks after my financial award was finalized, but it had Option B where you basically say "please hold my scholarship, I haven't decided yet".  You have to send in your deposit/confirm intent to register on May 31st.

For all of you still waiting, I will sadly be withdrawing today or tomorrow (depends on when I get my letter drafted).  I loved the school, but with no more money from them, I'll be going elsewhere.  Hopefully it will help!

friggin waitlist!

i'm planning on attending smu in the fall since UT has me waitlisted.
and i need to buy a condo now before all of the parents start coming down in the summer to buy investment property for their kids to live in while attending smu.  but if i do buy a condo now, that will make it pretty hard to accept if UT does cave in and offer me a spot off the waitlist.
bastiges

You can always rent it out to the less fortunate SMU law students, whose parents bought them a convertible instead of a condo  ;D

Boss, I just have one kid, thank goodness (no offense to those who have more, you are my heroes) but she is in a great preschool with lots of friends, so moving away will be tough, especially since she adjusts poorly.  But at three, they forget quickly.  I agree though, logically it would only make sense to pick UT if it matches or beats Vanderbilt (PLEASE UT !!!).

At work (I work for a large law firm in Austin) everyone told me to go to Northwestern, or UT if hubby can't find a good job in Chicago.  They have all agreed if I move at all, it should be for the highest school that I can afford. So now I'm even more confused  ???

I don't think you need a cosignor for the Access Group Loan -- I think the website below should give you the details.  I think its called a Comprehensive Access Loan (in case the link doesn't work)

https://www.accessgroup.org/AppSecure/Loan_Terms/LoanDetails.aspx

Thanks WeeSqueak, that's great information and I plan to apply ASAP.  Have you decided where you're going?

Well, that is quite an interesting dilemma! Congrats on having the fortune of such a tough choice! Welcome to something I call Triangular Reasoning, in which A>B>C>A. Kind of.
Of course, my answer is UT; perhaps you would be best served if rather than choosing from all 3, you eliminated one, then went head-to-head.

Yes, exactly.  Between UT and Vandy, I'm leaning towards Vandy.  Between Vandy and Northwestern, I'm leaning towards Northwestern.  Between Northwestern and UT, I'm leaning towards UT.  ;D  Time to book some plain tickets!

I think the Access Group offers a loan for international students with a competitive interest rate, so long as you have good credit and 3 year credit record (at the NU ASW there was a presentation by them).

You might want to investigate

They want a US co-signer though, right? :(  Maybe Vandy's dean will sign for me? I have a good credit score but not great (750, a few iffy things a few years ago), so while I'm definitely going to try for loans, I may not get them.  Which makes NU very tempting.  If only UT would match Vandy and make the choice easy for me!!!  I should find out by the end of the week.  And redacted, I agree, it's a good problem to have, but it's still making the next two weeks very stressful.  I'm leaning towards putting down two deposits, even though we don't have the money.

/and I really love Chicago, but wish global warming shifted their winter temps 10 points up.  It's hard to get my kidlet out of bed and dressed for school as it is, imagine that process involving a scarf, mittens, and horrors, thermal underwear! ;D
