Job Search / Re: Any Interviews Yet?

Cool it guys. Don't stress here about OCI and grades, things that we don't know anything about yet. There will be time for that next semester and next fall.
For BudLaw and anyone interested: I have an interview at one of the top 20 firms in the nation. I do not go to Yale, but I do go to a T25. I went Ivy for undergrad and have some wonderful experiences on my resume. I sent letters to 200 law firms last week, and have been lucky enough to get this reply.
I spoke with my career services dean today, and he said that top firms in major markets try to nail down the 1Ls who show the most promise given the predictors of success they've seen in their young associates. I guess my resume reflected one of those for them, and that's why they invited me in.
The firm I am interviewing with usually does OCI with our 1Ls in the spring, but I guess they're trying to get a jump on the students they think will be in high demand before the other firms get to them. They may wait 'til my grades come out, but at least I'm on their radar before the other folks.
I'm not a success story yet; all I have is an interview, but at least I'm getting responses. For those of you working on job stuff now, a few thoughts:
- The more places you apply, the better. I've gotten 4 rejections, 3 "wait 'til grades come out", and 1 interview so far. That's a nice rate of return for the first 8 responses.
- Most big firms won't fly 1Ls out for the interview. You'll have to go on your own dime.
That's all. Good luck everyone!
