LOL... um, the mattresses are NEW; they're just sold at a consignment shop.

I probably should have clarified that in the first place.

Jess is amazing... have you guys met her?

I'm just glad she's not in my society to destroy the curve :-P.

Jess... are you on this site? If so... super congrats!

Am I the only one who chose the combination lockers ? I did so because (a) I'm worried I'll lose the key, and (b) The idea of having so many books that I need the "Larger" lockers makes me emotionally shut down and give up.

Anyone? Anyone?

Eh, I guess it's just me and the 2 and 3Ls.

There's a used furniture store near UT that will do mattresses for a much more reasonable price than those listed here:

You can get a quees-sized mattress and boxsping in their "high quality" catagory for $370. I haven't seen them yet, but this is probably what I'm going to do. I don't knwo about you guys, but $600 feels like  lot to spend on a bed.

U of Texas - Austin / Re: Scholarship Letters?

I'm receiving the "George Rice Scholarship." anyone know who this is? From googling it, I think he may be a Texas environmentalist.

If anyone knows, that would be great, because it would be neat to know who I'm thanking.

The upstate NY chatter is making me miss it... mmmm Finger Lakes wines (Weimer Reisling makes life worth living). I went to Cornell (Ithaca) for undergrad, and the rents there were just about what they are in Austin.

But back to the OP, I got my scholarship note letter this week and I live in Tampa, so Houston folk should have gotten their letters by now, IMO.

As for getting scholarships, I got mine by requesting a matching scholarship from another school. People told me that the matching scholarships were only for scholarships given from higher-ranked schools, but I put in a request for matching funds offered by a school ranked in the mid-20s in USNWR. UT gave me a tiny bit less than the other school, but UT will still be cheaper because of the lower tuition  ;D.

Anyway, happy letter-writing!

No one has mentioned... THE COLBERT REPORT or THE DAILY SHOW. These two are by far my favorite late night TV fodder.

Miscellaneous things I also love:
-Will Ferrel
-Conan O'Brien
-Bill Maher
-Ann Coulter (She may be the most hilarious person on the planet)
-There's Something About Mary (Funniest movie of the late '90s)
-Robert Smigel (his SNL cartoons)
-Triumph the Insult Comic Dog

I bought my tickets last night, but I haven't bought the LASP yet. That's kosher, right? I can buy it later this summer?

U of Texas - Austin / Re: Grad Plus Loans

Just got mine too... actually, I think UT has been more on top of this than other law schools. I had deposits at Notre Dame and UT, and ND just sent out information about PLUS loans now. They didnt' include PLUS loans in their original aid packages.

UT is doing a pretty sweet job, IMO.
