General Board / Clerkships and Law firm offers

If you have an offer at a lawfirm and then accept a clerkship, how does this usually affect the offer?  Are they generally kept open; do most people accept an offer before starting the clerkship?  Has anyone heard of a firm giving an offer, and then rescinding after they accepted a clerkship.  I'm curious if firms are hesitant to pay the clerkship bonus to someone they may have given an offer to just to make sure their NALP form looked good.

General Board / Federal Clerkship letters of reccomendation

What do you think is better, getting a letter from a professor with name recognition that doesn't really know you enough to say anything more than "he was prepared for class and got an A on my exam," or from a former non-legal employer or legal aid clinic supervisor who knows you well?

What are common accomplishments for people who would be competitive for a court of appeals clerkship vs a district court clerkship vs a state supreme court clerkship.  Assume non T14 tier 1 school.

2L job search / too late to start sending out resumes

Biglaw OCI is just about over at my school, and I'm stuck with only a 1/2 summer job.  Is it worth sending resumes off to other cities' biglaw firms now or is it too late?

Plus, are there any down sides to only working 1/2 the summer, career wise, asides from missing out on about $15,000 and another chance at a permanent job offer?

For all those whove gone through OCI before, how soon after your screening interview did you receive phone calls asking for you to come in for call back interviews?

My resume looks pretty good.  Top 10%, law review, solid work experience, leadership roles in organizations etc.  However, a few firms doing OCI that I never thought were the most selective, have not picked me for screening interviews while most of the top firms have.  Has anyone else had a similar experience so far?
