Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: WAITLISTED AT UVA
« on: February 17, 2006, 04:31:16 AM »
me too - got the email, can't acccess the site.

oh so sad.

Are there really only 100 of us on the general out-of-state waitlist?  That's something to be proud of, right?

what to do?  I went to UVA undergrad, maybe I can dig up another professor to write another rec for me?

not the best way to start the weekend.

I got the email too.  Is anyone going to send more info?  I don't know what I'd add.

I'm so sad, the wait is killing me!  I guess I should get down to the business of deciding between the schools I did get accepted to...

to end the (heartstopping, I know) suspense ...

it's true, I'm in - got the letter today.  it's official.  Boy Florida sounds good right about now (Blizzard in Brooklyn ya know)

thanks all!

OK, just a little baseless speculation while I wait for response from the admissions department to my email requesting clarity.

I was invited via email to attend an admitted studen't chat for Miami.  Am I in?

I thought the voting line was funny, too.  I wonder how close it was, and whether any hanging chads were involved.

still no further info has arrived since the 1st letter... so I'm taking youall's word for it on the admit weekend timing

I suppose I'll try for the April 7/8 weekend, though wow I don't know if I can get that much time off of work... if I'm going to choose between UIUC and Wisconsin, I'll need to see them both - and UIUC's admit days are 3/3 and 3/31...

I got my packet yesterday w/ $ award mentioned (email was sent to me 1/27) - 15K/yr, nothing to sneeze at.

I also was blown away by the low rents when I researched the area.  Also, the more I look into it, the more I see how impressive UIUC is in terms of faculty and reputation in lots of ways.

I've only so far heard from 3 schools, and I hope that the rest don't ALL reject me, but for now I'm looking at Wisc vs. Illinois.  So sad, because I would LOVE Madison, I just know it.  Only UIUC seems like a better school.

Financial Aid / Re: In-State Residency UIUC
« on: February 02, 2006, 08:45:03 AM »
Thanks archival!!!  I saw the faq too before I posted - but your way is more helpful, this way everyone can see.

It looks like maybe we could swing in-state status second year if my guy worked while we were there and filed taxes, etc.

I was hoping someone might have anecdotal experience with this working or not, etc.

I'll speak with the fin aid office at some point to get details.  As discussed in another thread, we are being very careful with the decision to marry or not, not sure what impact that will have on fin aid, etc...

this is all so complicated.  thank goodness for LSD, you guys are the best.

Financial Aid / In-State Residency UIUC
« on: February 01, 2006, 04:35:03 PM »
I'm sorry if this has been covered somewhere else on this board (if so, someone please piont the way, thx)

Anyone know how hard it is to get residency status for second year at Illinois? Looks kind of hard but not imposible.  Anyone out there with experience in this area?

Example: What if my partner moves with me this fall and works for the calendar year leading up to 2L? If I marry him, would that enough to get me residency status 2L and 3L?

I ask because the offered 15K scholarship pretty much covers in-state tuition and it would be SWEET to qualify 2nd and 3rd year.

Financial Aid / Re: A Financial Aid List ('Cause I'm Bored) - Add to it!
« on: February 01, 2006, 05:10:40 AM »

Important Notes: 1) Where a school did not give a deadline, I put the deadline as February 1st;
----cut -----
University of Michigan
Deadline: 2/01/2006
FAFSA Code: E00506
Need Access: Yes
School Specific Forms/Ppwk: 2005 Tax Return; 1st pp of 2000-2004 return for any/all years you claim to have been "Independent"

Sorry - To clarify - does this mean that Michigan did not give a deadline, or that you saw somewhere something due today (sorry to be obtuse, just checking here.)

Here's a quote from the Michigan website:

Is there a financial aid deadline for first-year law students?
No, there is not a financial aid deadline for first-year law students; you can apply right up to the start of the school year, if you wish. Of course, the sooner we have your completed application, the sooner we can issue your award letter. Our continuing students, however, have a firm financial aid application deadline in April of each year.

(I sent in my FinAid docs to Emory, as they had a 2/1 deadline, but I thought all others were 2/15 or later.  I just got my w2s and have a really busy day at work ahead of me.)

Do I need to do this today, I guess is the question...

Oh, and really really great thread! Thanks for starting it.
