Wait List / Re: Michigan deferral
« on: February 24, 2006, 09:47:23 AM »
hmmm...

I haven't replied as of yet to the Mich email - is anyone else treating this like a deferral/waitlist? It sounds like it might be a good idea to at least express interest...

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Richmond or W&L
« on: February 24, 2006, 09:43:36 AM »
I've also got this choice, if I want to be in VA - My family lives in C'ville so it would be nice to be close to them.  And I have a ton of friends in Richmond.

But I want to end up back in NY, so W&L is clearly the better choice.  Trouble is, my man will probably not be too happy in Lexington - not that he'd be significantly happier in Richmond, but Lexington is so small and isolated, expecially compared ot life in NYC...

Where should I go next fall? / Re: UIUC ($) or Cardozo

bump.

I'm in the same situation, though I also have acceptance to W&L which may have a little better pull in NYC than UIUC.  I'd like to come back to NYC when law school is over, and I was hoping to leave for the years I was in law school.  But now, considering, it does seem as though it might be a good idea to go ahead and go to school here, better internship possibilities, etc...

anyone have more thoughts?

Wow what a response.

Sorry for not being more specific in my choice of words.  By 'national' I meant placement outside of the south.  In my case, specifically, I very much want to keep open the option of returning to New York City after graduation if I so choose.

By "crazy" I simply meant that I've been soooo excited ever since I got my W&L acceptance, and I want to be sure I'm thinking straight.  Anyway, from what I'm hearing here, Vandy would def. be a step better, and emory might also be a bit better.

Of course, I plan to visit them all and see what works for me.  Has anyone visited any of these this cycle?

Law School Applications / Re: HIGH LSAT/LOW GPA SPLITTERS UNITE!!!!

chin up , mobo!  we're rooting for you.

I too have been kicked to the waitlist at UVA oh oh so so sad.  I'm also in defferal land for both Fordham and michigan. sigh.

BUT I've been accepted to W&L and I'm actually really pretty thrilled about that - it's close to "home" (c'ville - guess which school would have been closer...) and a pretty good school to boot.

Still hoping for a miracle at UVA though, and/or another knock your socks off T14.  Someone light a candle.

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Washington & Lee (vs. W&M, Vandy, Emory)
« on: February 20, 2006, 09:08:14 AM »
Am I crazy?  W&L is really high on my list, it gives me the warm fuzzys.  I know it's in a small town, and I come from the south so I know how boring and stifling that can be.  I also know I can live for 3 yrs in a tiny southern town and love it just fine.

W&L pops up over and over on top 20 lists - it seems fairly national.  Does anyone know from a practical perspective if its as great a school as it appears to be?

My waitlist status at UVA has me thinking hard about choices in southern schools.  Help me! Compared to W&M, Vandy and Emory, how does W&L stack up?  Is Vandy a bit more national?

Thanks to you all - and good luck to everyone this cycle!

Hiya!

I'm doing a whirlwind midwest tour - staying in Chicago and driving down in the early AM on Friday to see UIUC 3/3 for admit days.  then back to Chicago and up again at the crack of dawn to head over to madison for Saturday 3/4.

Maybe Sunday I'll chec out UChicago or make the *gulp* treck over to Michigan (though I don't see an acceptance from either of them in my future, and I can always go back later, right?)

Anyway, I'll be sure to post reviews when I return in a few weeks, but meanwhile - anyone else out there going to either of these events? (UIUC or Wisc)?

There's already some threads hopping for both UIUC and Wisc, but if anyone has specific advice on choosing btewwn the two, let me know.  Finally - anything specific I should check out while there? (specific must-see coffee shops, etc?)

Wait List / Re: WAITLISTED AT UVA
« on: February 20, 2006, 08:43:43 AM »
Hey - My admitWeb statuscheck has not yet changed - is this true for anyone else out there?  Do you feel that as the email was sent early/in error we should wait for more official waitlist notification?  Surely they will follow with an email correcting the website error if nothing else, right?

I think that if I don't hear more by tomorrow, I will write via email, maybe follow in 2 weeks w/ a paper letter or even another LOR.

Did anyone get more than the unedited email?  Did anyone else write and receive any helpful information about the status of the waitlist?

Much thanks!

hey... maybe the "whatever" error will work in our favor - it will weed out some folks (because, yes it is a bit harsh to get an unedited email) who are turned off by the prospect of waiting for a spot and maybe less WL applicants will show their interest?

oh just looking for a ray of hope here I guess.  For me, I'm going to pull out all the stops possible.  My family lives in C'ville and I'd sure like the kids to be near their grandpa for the next 3 years (besides the fact that UVA Law just rocks)

And I agree w/ mobo.  It's an honor not to be rejected, even if it doesn't ultimately result in a place in the entering class.
