I've had good luck with this site (and there are plenty of others like it):

http://www.campusbooks.com/law-textbooks.asp

You can compare prices for new and used books on a bunch of discount sites. Even if you order books that are new or "like new," which is what I did, you can still save quite a bit. The older the book, the cheaper you can usually get it.

Of course, buying books online doesn't compare to the instant gratification of the campus bookstore. :)

I've read that there will be WiFi in Schenley Plaza, which is a parking lot that's being turned into a park. It's across Forbes Avenue from the Cathedral of Learning, not even a block from the law school. But that probably won't be available until spring, when the park is supposed to open.

I think you can get an ID card as of August 1 (today). The Litchfield Towers lobby is across the pedestrian bridge from the law school.

First-week assignments are posted here:

http://www.law.pitt.edu/student/registrar/first_week_assignments_1L.php

Based on those, you can tell which section you're in. For example, Contracts with Flechtner is Section A and Wang is Section C -- so Madison must be Section B. (No wonder I did so well on the puzzles section of the LSAT ... not.) I'm in Section C.

The whole first-year summer mailing is here:

http://www.law.pitt.edu/student/registrar/1Lsummermailing.php

The registrar's page is http://www.law.pitt.edu/student/registrar.php. There's a lot of good stuff there, including a textbook list, but I guess I'll have to wait for the hard copy to come in the mail to find out when my classes are.

I'm here now -- I didn't have to move. I'd definitely like to meet some people before school starts, though. You can look up my e-mail address and cell phone number on the Pitt Web site (http://www.pitt.edu/findpeople.html). I'd post it here but don't want to get bombarded with spam. Hope to hear from you.

Pittsburgh / Re: Married and going to Pitt?

Hey there. I'm Joe and I'm a soon-to-be 1L at Pitt. My wife and I always welcome the chance to associate with other grownups (we have a 4-year-old), so count us in. We got married just before she started med school at Pitt, so now it's my turn to run up some serious debt!

I've lived in or around Pittsburgh almost all my life, so feel free to ask for advice about where to live or whatever. Looking forward to meeting some people -- if you're already in the area, by all means say hi.
