Where should I go next fall? / Re: Tier 3 and 4 Aceptances and Rejections
« on: January 07, 2006, 10:58:02 AM »
Dinged at Seton Hall. OUCH! My first rejection. Although I must say, their rejection letter was rather sweet and almsot touching at times.

Hey AKC... what are ur numbers? i applied to SHU law and got waitlisted today. I wasnt too happy either but I thought your numbers were a little better then mine.. im surprised they dinged u

You guys got dinged completely or were you offered a PT space?  My numbers are weak for that school (3.3/154) but I was offered a PT seat instead automatically...

NY Law's average starting salary is $70,000.  That's not going to take you very far in New York.

st. johns is nothing to sneeze at...it is an excellent school.  hofstra will probably give you $$ though it is in LI.  NY Law is not a bad school either...their average starting salary is 90K despite the Third tier status...

all is not lost
January paranoia has set in and since I've now convinced myself that I have virtually no shot at Fordham, Brooklyn, and Cardozo, I'm looking much more closely at my safeties: Pace, St. John's, and New York Law. Out of curiosity, how would you rank these schools nationally and regionally? I would also love to hear any further info/feedback you have to share about them, as well as a lengthy explanation as to why I might still have a chance at Cardozo or Fordham (Brooklyn and I are somewhat infamously on the outs).  :D

Thanks and good luck to you all!

hmm i remember distinctly reading 90K somewhere...

could be wrong though

Law School Applications / Do grades in major really matter/count?
« on: January 04, 2006, 01:55:30 AM »
People always say I have a 3.5 GPA but a 3.3 in my major.  My transcript doesn't even split it up that way.  Do schools even look at this?  I doubt they have the time to check to see which classes you took are part of your major and then calculate that grade.

What say you?  and why is it on LSN?

Ding!

Just kidding. Diversity statements can address any kind of diversity that sets you apart from other applicants--it's NOT just a code word for Affirmative Action! It sounds like you did exactly what you should have done, focusing on your diverse experiences.

ps. Speaking of diversity, was it in poor taste for posters in this thread to use "German" and "nazi" within two posts of each other?

ha..didn't even notice that

but even if it was intentional, it was not in poor taste...

thanks for the responses

so it won't hurt even if they didn't ask for it specifically?

Law School Applications / Re: Unusual/Uncommon majors?

what about finance?

it is probably a marginal thing if any, but as long as you did well in business/finance and took other classes with papers and such, prove your writing skillz in your ps, it proobably wont hurt really.  they are just worried you wont have the law school skillz, analytical reasoning about abstract liberal artslike issues.

hell yeah sonn..i got madd writing skillz

i did take a lot of Law-related classes and other classes that required writing and did well

Does taking law related classes help at all?

one of the schools i'm applying to has a summer program where you can go free of charge to attend a 1L course for credit.  If you pass with a min. of a B- you get accepted.

Anyone have any insight on this "backdoor" method of entering law school?
