Choosing the Right Law School / Is it possible to study on the train?
« on: January 29, 2006, 02:10:04 PM »
Anyone here think it's crazy if I were to live 1.5 hours away from school and do some work on the train ride?  I would be taking public transportation solely...just wanted to hear some feedback...

Is it even possible to effectively study on the train?

Financial Aid / Re: EFC= $100

Not necessarily.  In addition to loans, you could get grants and scholarships to make up the  rest of the cost of attendence.

by scholarships you mean non-merit based?  because I am by no means at the high end of the applicants at the schools ive been accepted to so far...

Fordham is a top law school, St John is okay, definitedly not a TTT.  Plus, you left out a few, such as Pace Univ.

even hofstra is T2

how can touro be on the same list as Fordham?

Financial Aid / EFC= $100

So I'm guessing the whole tuition will be loans?

When I applied last year, I was waitlisted at Hofstra for PT offer.  I applied and was accepted at St. John's PT though.

PMed you but I NEED your numbers...i reaaallly want st johns but i have a 1 in a million shot

Great to know I have a chance (maybe) elsewhere despite my Hofstra WL.  I thought it was weird too because it came right after my admit to Syracuse with $$$ and they share a ranking.

I wanted to apply to Seton Hall, from talking with the admissions rep. it seems like they empasize soft factors when they apply, but te supplemental app was just TOO much for me.

i didn't do any supplemental apps...i just applied full time and they offered me a PT position

oh well...maybe this means I have a shot at St. John's...that would be a miracle...

why are you upset? did you really want to go there?

eh with my mediocre numbers I would have been happy there...

but I guess I would be crazy to take Hofstra over Seton Hall...

This further proves that the application process is almost hit or miss.

Got into seton hall but waitlisted at hofstra...very was my first choice...

btw this was for the PT program...their stats are 151/156 25/75 and I had a 154/3.3

oh well, it all happens for the best...

Well tomorrow it will be 6 weeks...

should i worry?

Financial Aid / Re: Question about Financial Aid max (18.5K)
« on: January 17, 2006, 01:09:30 PM »
In my understanding this 18.5k is the max you can take out yearly in Stafford loans for graduate/professional ed.  You are definitely able to take out that much in unsubsidized loans regardless of financial need (exceptions for drug convictions, so if you have one of those... sad).  If your income is low you might get some subsidized loans as part of that 18.5k.  Grant aid, law school loans, and private loans would cover the rest if you were to get grants.  If your expected family contribution (EFC) is low enough you might get a grant though many schools don't have lots of money for grants.  Usually you get stafford loans, then grants, then law school loans for need-based aid.  Private loans would need to cover the rest of your expenses (your EFC and maybe some cost of living not included in the school budget).  Does that make sense?

so i'm basically guaranteed the 18.5.  I have a clean record.

Then you can borrow the rest directly from the school?

And last resort would be private fudns correct?
