3L job search / 2.9 at a high T2, is biglaw completely out of the question?
« on: December 12, 2008, 03:42:33 PM »
I don't necessarily want to work at a white shoe firm, but making at least 6 figures would be nice.  Is this possible after a 1-yr state clerkship?  I'm a 3L with mostly B's but God-willing this last year I will get some A's in there in classes like bankruptcy and commercial law.  Do firms really look at individual grades or do they consider the whole package?

How did you get a callback so quickly?  I just submitted my OCI stuff recently.

I go to a high T2, with very average grades.  However, I have a very decent resume working for various US regulatory agencies and SRO's.  So two questions:

1) What are the firms that specialize in those areas?
2) Do I have a shot at any of those firms?

Thanks

In the eastern world, men who shave because their wives/girlfriends told them to are not considered men.

I'd rather keep my dignity than work for some firm that bases its hiring decisions on whether or not I have a goatee.

General Board / Re: Possibiility of working with FBI?
« on: July 09, 2007, 05:28:03 PM »
Before law school I was offered a special agent job with the FBI.  It took me 3 or 4 interviews, exams and some lengthy background check to get the job.  The whole process took about 1.5 years.  When the offer finally came through I had been working with a company on wall street for about a year.
In my opinion you are wasting your law school education if you become a special agent with FBI after graduation, as I was able to secure an offer with only undergrad degree.  Maybe FBI general counsel would be a better fit.  And, don't forget, the pay scale for special agent is quite abysmal.  You are just federal cop, slightly more prestigious than city cop but not much more.  Movies can be misleading.

Well, special agent is out of the question (that's the one where you carry guns, right?).  I meant non-special agent.

I ask becauase they are coming to my school to do OCI in the fall.

General Board / Possibiility of working with FBI?

Anyone here have experience with the FBI?  How could I use my law degree there?  I think I could be a valuable asset because I am fluent in Arabic...

Any opinions?

General Board / Re: Odds for Harvard, NYU, Stanford, Columbia?

I have a 3.93 at Top50 (on a 3.0 forced curve). Several CALI Highest Grade Awards; Law Review; and lots of excellent work experience pre-law and great recommendation letters.

Realistically, with a fairly weak UGPA (2.9), what are my odds transferring?  I'm assuming UGPA isn't too relevant in light of everything else, but ya never know.  My Rank will likely be in the Top 3-5 Students in the whole class.

Odds anyone?  Applied to Harvard; NYU; Stanford, and Columbia.

I would stay where you are for many reasons, unless you really, really, want that Ivy league diploma on your wall.

just live a simple life, free of anything that will bring you down.  that way, you don't have to live a schizophrenic life.

what i mean is, if you have to hide stuff from your employer, the problem isn't the employer finding out; the problem is the stuff you're hiding.

Might have a shot at an interview in a week or so.  What do I wear?  Say? Do?
