as far as paying the deposit at NYU goes, the letter asks that you ahve witdrawn from all schools you've been accepted at, not all schools you applied to. So obviously schools you were waitlisted at don't count.
I was held too. It seems to be exactly like a waitlist, since they don't go to it until after some of their admits haven't paid the deposit. I don't care if its ranked or not and I don't see where their is a meaningful difference there columbia. 4
