Black Law Student Discussion Board / Re: Crash - The Movie
« on: June 25, 2005, 09:52:36 PM »
nope..."4 little girls" was a much stronger film..."crash"...didn't cut it 4 me...sorry.

aye guess the hollywood stuff has made me too suspicious...and aye find many film offerings these days to be "yawners"... aye saw it with two friends...and frankly...only paid matinee prices...not too impressed...very cardboard-like...and wooden...so we left...

a few of us rented "4 little girls"...it left more of an impact.

"4 little girls" can be rented for a small amt. of cash and strikes a deeper chord...

Are you on the sales team or something?

I just saw the movie today, and although I thought it was manipulative and about as subtle as a brick to the head, I loved it.  I knew that I was being manipulated emotionally, but it was working.  I have never had such a hard time watching a movie without reacting viscerally.  As far as the dialogue and plot being over the top, I think that once you accept the world of the movie, it is okay.  The movie took place in an alternate universe in which people speak what they are thinking and how you treat people will come back to harm you in a karmic manner.

Whether they love it or hate it, everybody should see it.

Wait List / Re: Accepted off UofA waitlist... now what do I do??
« on: June 23, 2005, 12:38:06 AM »
I can tell you that today, in Tucson at least, it was too hot.  It has been for the last few weeks or so.  Arizona isn't the temperate California.  For eight/nine months of the year it is beautiful, but these summers get hot.  The can't-touch-the-steering-wheel, air-conditioning-can't-quite-overpower-the-heat days can be killers.  It's probably still better than snow though.

As far as your decision, if I had to choose for you based off of only the info in this thread, I would choose ASU.  I do believe that UofA is a better school.  I also believe that the current minor reputation and ranking difference between the two schools understates the direction in which the schools are going in the future.  Both schools are likely rising stars in the long run, but it will be UofA's overall reputation as a spectacular graduate and research institution that will someday take it into the upper echelon of schools.  My alumni pride forces me to believe this, but I am willingly forced.

Even if I am right, however, this will not affect your job search in the near future.  Good grades at ASU will net you a good job in Arizona.  They will probably net you the same job you would get with the same grades from UofA.  If you had said you wanted to live in any other state than Arizona, I would choose UofA.  In Arizona, in the near future, however, it's a wash, so don't move your family and go to ASU.

My sister just moved from Tucson to NYC last month, and after extensive number crunching she found that it was cheaper (and easier) to ship any "packable" stuff and buy new furniture on the other end.  Of course this depends on how nice your current furniture is; hers was all cheap discount furniture store mixed with a few DIY Wal-Mart items.

First, if you look back at my post... I never said "anti-ASU bias" or anything of the sort.  What I said was, "Interesting... you seem more than a bit biased toward UofA".

I'm done... this is like feeding caviar to a donkey.

"It seems to me that you are intent on denigrating ASU, offering numbers that are not entirely accurate to make ASU seem worse than it actually is. "

Your arguments may be valid; they may not be valid.  I wouldn't know because your tone is so condescending and hateful that I don't take the time to think about them.  You seem to see yourself as some kind of master of verbal jousting, but you need to realize that you will never change any opinions if nobody wants to listen to you.

I would start as soon as possible.

I have already started looking, but we weren't going to leave for LA to actually try to sign a lease until after the 4th weekend.  Do you think that is too late?

It's not too late, but I agree with everyone here... go ASAP! LA is a big city and the good places go fast! New places do go up for rent all the time, so there is some hope if you are going in early July.

We made some calls yesterday because I was afraid that we would need to drive to LA this week to find a place.  All three places we called told us that if we came down, they are signing leases to have us move in right now.  The general opinion was that if we want to sign a lease starting around August 1, we should come down around July 31 to look for a place.  The market is so fast that place come up and down in a few days.  I've never really done this apartment search thing before, and I am getting conflicting advice.  Anyone have an idea what I should do?

My mom is friends with a woman who recruits for Fennemore Craig. When I was accepted into ASU and U of A, she said to go to U of A if I could swing the move, because it is MUCH easier to get a job in Phoenix with a law degree from U of A. Of course, working in Phoenix wasn't my biggest concern. The only time ASU seems to have a one-up on U of A is jobs as a 2l or 3l. Obviously, commuting from Phoenix to Tucson during school is impossible. But you can still summer in Phoenix if you go to U of A, and an Arizona grad is in more demand.

I can see this.  It is as well known in Arizona as outside of Arizona that UofA is the better school.  The difference between the two may be marginal, but when you have as large of a market as Arizona that is supplied by only two schools (NAU doesnt count.), even this small difference can mean the world.

lol, your welcome faith & seu & anyone else who appreciated those lyrics, although i probably should have edited some stuff out....i will in a minute....

oversized tee's have been hot for a minute, since like 03' at least in NY they have been....the wire even added them in last season....can't wait for it to start back up, although my man was killed off

I mostly wanted to tag this thread because it's a good read, but I then I noticed a mention of The Wire.  I don't think I've ever heard anybody ever talk about this show, but I love it.  Stringer's last scene was just so . . . I love that show.

If no, then give Palms/ Venice a shot. Be careful, since some parts can be kind of seedy and have their share of gang activity...

Can you elaborate on this please?  :)

Yes, could you?  I have found some apartments that are right along the bus line into UCLA and are priced low.  Are the particular streets/corners that I should avoid, or is the whole neighborhood "seedy"?

Where should I go next fall? / Re: GW or UCLA

haha, just some friendly teasing ;) it seems like an inevitability between a trojan and a bruin

yeah that bball loss was crappy, i was rooting for 'zona

I had actually stopped watching the game at that point.

It will take me a while to get used to being a bruin.  My dad went to USC for undergrad and dental, so shouting at the TV was a common occurance during Trojan vs. Bruin games.
