Yikes did anyone get the information packet on the new "Technology requirement" at UMD?? Will anyone be requesting a waiver? I mean, I already own a Dell, just not the exact model, and I'm very willing to load any programs that I'll need onto it (I already have the "Student Software Bundle - Word, Excel, etc.). I didn't think I needed to buy a whole new laptop for all the same programs! I have yet to how theirs are "preconfigured" with any special, new programs unique to UMD....any thoughts/info on this?

Hey OriolesFan, thanks for the link
I read that and I wasn't sure how easy it would be, but apparently it'll be more challenging than I thought. I'm not sure how I'll be able to cover 50% of my total expenses in one summer, and seems doubtful now

Is anyone here out-of-state? I'm finding the tuition extremely high, and my total expenses will apparently exceed %50k per year!!
Is there any way that I can guarantee getting in-state tuition by my second year? How many people can earn $25k during the summer of their first year??
If you have any suggestions as to how to live the most cheaply in Baltimore (i.e. cheapest place to live, ways to commute) I'm all ears!! Thanks in advance!!

Hey there beanbeangirl, I was able to reach her on the first try but I definitely think that you're doing the right thing in being persistent. If she doesn't get back to you in a few days, call her again! I'd keep bugging her until I got her on the line, to be honest. Good Luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

P.S. I also sent an additional LOR, a letter of interest, and kept in email contact with an admissions counselor at UMaryland on a regular basis to inform her of my interest. So basically, I hectored them a lot until they finally let me in
I wish you all the best of luck, and hope to see some of you soon at UMD!!

Hi, for everyone who's curious about what I said to the director, I simply told her the truth. I told her that Maryland was my first choice, and that I would definitely
attend if I were accepted. I was completely honest with her, and I am only putting down a deposit at UMaryland because it's my #1 choice, and I passed up other schools for it. Basically, I think that she knew how much that I wanted to go there, and I was forthright about my plans. I also withdrew my waitlist spots from all other schools as soon as I got in there. I only suggest this route if you're completely sure it's where you want to go. I wish you all the best of luck!!

Got a couple more scholarship offers from the financial aid office of OSU even though I already withdrew.

I gave up a seat at OSU, so I hope that clears up a spot for someone. Good luck, it's a great school!!
