Law School Discussion

MBF is a great firm. They're very strong in IP and litigation. All the major firms in Milwaukee (Reinhart, Quarles, Godfrey, MBF) except for Foley are very good regional lawfirms. Foley is the only truly national firm in Milwaukee. If you want to work 2200 hours and do Fortune 500 work on a consistent basis, go work at Foley. If you want high level, quality work where you're not spending every living moment at the office, any of the other firms are great.

I thought I'd put my two cents in. I'm a 2L at a top 35 public school. I live about 30 miles from school (takes about a 45 minutes door to door). I'm married, but don't have kids. I realize we're not in the same boat. But I wanted to let you know that my situation is totally doable. I'm on Law Review and Moot Court. I'm in the top 12% of my class and have a great firm job lined up this summer. Is the one and a half hours I spend in the car fun everyday? Nope (especially not in the winter when the snow causes the commute to be significantly longer). Has it stopped me from doing well? Nope. In fact, I kind of like being able to just relax in the car, not think about schoolwork and when I get home eat and then do work.

I agree... outline anyways. The process of outlining is where the learning goes on. Simply using a 2L's outline has minimal value. Sure it provides you with the blackletter law, but creating an outline (even if you use the structure of other outlines) and putting it in your own words is what cements the material in your head.

I also agree that understanding the law is not necessarily the difficult part. It's the ability to coherently lay out your analysis of the issues that will get you the good grades. If there are two answers that have the same material, but one of them is not as organized, and the other one has clear thesis sentences, etc, the latter one will get a better grade. There is usually not that much separating a B+ from an A-.

Don't know much about Miami, but I'm a 1L at UW-Madison. I love it. Great school. UW, just like all the other Big-10 lawschools (except for Michigan) is regional in nature. Alumni tend to stick around the Midwest. The biggest markets for UW lawschool alumni are Chicago, Milwaukee and the twin cities. If you have any more questions about the school let me know.

I bought a Dell 710m a couple of months ago and I ended up buying the 9 cell battery. Tons of battery life. If you're already going to buy the 9 cell I wouldn't buy the 6 cell as a backup.
