Job Search / Re: Phone call from firm
« on: October 03, 2006, 06:01:06 PM »
FYI: I ended up getting an offer from the firm that I interviewed with over 5 weeks ago. My situation was unique, in some sense. Nevertheless, I am ecstatic. Don't lose hope!

I had a call back and they said I'd hear within 2-3 weeks. I was losing hope until last week (3 weeks later) I got a letter telling me the hiring committee had not yet met. Thus, I will hear in a bit. Don't lose hope (even if I have)

Our CSO had a presentation which gave us the same stats. In the Chicago market, if you get a call back, it's a 50-70% chance of getting an offer.

I don't think that is accurate. I had a "call back" interview and I asked how many interviews they did. The recruiting co-ordinator prefaced the remark by telling me the firm gets "thousands" of apps, and then proceeded to say they did over 100 "call-back" interviews; they only hire about 12-20.

I had a callback with a firm, and they said 2-3 weeks to hear back. I think it depends on when the hiring committee meets.

While your comments are interesting, I thought I'd explain what happened. I made several inquiries throughout the process and did not receive a straightfoward answer. I also communicated my problem to the committee before I submitted it, telling them that I acted on their advice and still confronted a problem. They said they would still read it, as it had been sent in with a page total under the limit. Perhaps I was docked for it, but they did read it.

For those of you graders, I have a small question. I submitted my write-on note, but with one concern: I thought I might be over the page limit. On my computer, I was at under the page limit. But when I made sure I sent the right file and opened as an attachment, I was 3 pages over. Assuming that I went *over* the page limit, how much will I be penalized?

Edit: Is there any way to explain what happened if I do not get on "because" I exceeded the limit?

Tier 2, Top 12%
Top Public, UGPA: 3.825 (Top 9%)

Also, does anyone have a website with transfer stats?

Actually I am asking the same question.

I know that Larry Lessig, renowned IP law professor at Stanford, transferred from U of C to Yale. I do not know, however, what his grades were like. That's the best I can do.
