Transferring / Re: Chances at transferring to Columbia

I think you will have an excellent shot at Columbia with that rank coming from BU.  Have you checked out the Yahoo group for transfer app stats from prior years?

And I don't think their deadline has passed.

I think I have a good shot at both.  But one of my LORs has hit an unexpected delay, so I'm not sure when my Columbia App will be complete.

I think pure academics/reputation/classes, I would choose Columbia.  But I hear that NYU treats transfers really well, I haven't heard anything about transfers to Columbia.

I guess it is a good dilemna to have.

Transferring / apply with grades but without ranking?
« on: June 02, 2006, 08:09:02 AM »
I am waiting on 2 of my 4 spring grades, but will likely have them well before our rankings come out.  Do I forward my transcripts when I get my grades, but before rankings come out?

Or should I wait until rankings are released?

Any thoughts?

Should you wait until after you get your grades before asking for a rec?

Seems like that leaves profs with small amount of time to do the rec...

and how do you broach the subject, especially when considering just transferring across town?

I am in a similar situation.  But deciding between a magistrate judge in SDNY or circuit judge for 9th circuit court of appeals.

I know the 9th circuit would be way more presitgous, but I feel like I'd get more writing and research opportunitites with the magistrate judge, and I want to work in NY after I graduate.

any thoughts?

I decided on Tuesday.

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: Please help - BU or Fordham?

I did talk to two lawyers in Seattle regarding Fordham and BU.  Both have done recruiting in that area and both said they would choose BU over Fordham.  They both said they just weren't very familiar with Fordham.

Maybe BU's reputation isn't national, but based on these converations and what I've read, it does carry outside of NYC and the northeast far better than Fordham does.  I just feel like outside of NYC, Fordham carries no weight.
