I totally agree with the idea that I would regret not applying even more.  At the same time, this has dragged on so long, and now I have no other school left to think about... they are the last ones that haven't replied to me... that I can't help wishing for it harder than is healthy.

You guys are funny. How is saying I'm a "small female" racist? How is saying I think it's in a bad neighborhood mean that I'm "scared of minorities?" I AM a minority!  :D I think Columbia is in a bad neighborhood. I'm allowed to think that! Not every neighborhood is a good neighborhood. And I've lived in different cities all my life. It has nothing to do with minorities in the area. Why can't you guys just admit that it's a subjective thing, and move on to more objective differences between the two schools?

I can't handle it anymore. I imagine waiting all these months only to get a rejection in the mail. It's not that I would expect to get in, I don't think anyone would expect to get into Harvard, but will die of heartbreak anyway.  :-\

I disagree on this. Morningside heights may yet be the best location to live in the City.

Okay, so obviously the poster is going to have to visit because what kind of area Columbia is located in is a very subjective issue. Personally, as a smaller female, I would not feel safe there. Which is not to say that Columbia isn't totally worth it anyway...

Yay- apparently access to the admitted students site is an early warning sign that you're in.

I just went to visit Columbia this weekend, and the area it was located in really bothered me. It's not a good neighborhood. I can't imagine living off campus there (at least not anywhere nearby) and living on campus for three may not be possible. Coupled with the expense of NY etc., it's a VERY difficult decision.

I had an *earlier* deadline with W&M because of my scholarship, so I called them to beg to hold my scholarship a bit longer because I'm not yet decided. They sounded very displeased with me on the phone but held it an extra two weeks.

I got into Cornell with only *slightly* higher numbers.
