General Board / Re: The study habits of others...

I actually have a class that requires us to do a typed brief of every case.  Does this seem weird to anyone?
(I dont brief for any of my other classes, but I attribute that to personal laziness)

General Board / Re: What the hell are schools in New Orleans doing?

I know this applies more to undergrads than law students, but...

I was president of my frat at tulane LAST fall (and the spring before), and I guess my phone number must be still on some databases.... Anyway, I (and the current president) have been getting calls from our chapters all across the country.  They've all said the same thing, if anyone is displaced and wants to go to their school, have them get in touch.  They all say that their school is accepting tulane students, at least for visiting semesters, and that our frat will provide free housing (and meal plan in some cases).  Pretty great offer.. good way to make something good out of such a bad situation, and maybe experience a part of the country you've always wanted to.  This is only one fraternity, but I assume other greek organizations will make similar offers.

And the offer can probably be extended to any law (or other grad) student at tulane or loyola who was in a greek house during undergrad.  (brothers for life, you know)

We all got assigned lockers at my school.  It just adds to the "back in high school" vibe.  Oh yeah, there's a prom too.  Seriously.

Yay!  That's you and another person who emailed me!

Let's do it this way...if you're interested, send me an email, that way I can be sure to send everyone a message with the info.  My email address is (I'm sure this will look familiar) hleaman@law.villanova.edu.  We can also update this board with the info.

Maybe we could plan for the Thursday or Friday before orientation (19th or 20th).  I'm open for suggestions on places... I have heard great things about Manyunk.  I have friends in the area, so I'll ask them for ideas.  Is anyone actually from the immediate area?

Well, look forward to working with and meeting everyone!

I'm down.  I am especially for the Manayunk idea, but of course my opinion is a little biased 'since my new apt is walking distance from the Manayunk bars. (convenient...) Anyway if this is really happening, let me know.

Must be Santa Clara.  I've spent alot of time in the area and took my lsat's on the campus as well.

My cousin just graduated from SC law school and commuted from Hayward everyday so its definitely possible.  I was going to warn you about the traffic but then I saw that you're moving from NY so no new surprises there!  Anyways, welcome to the sunshine state.  I'm moving from SF to Philly so I'm headed in the opposite direction...  bye cali...

I just relocated from New Orleans to Philly for 1L.  What school in Philly are you headed to?  I'll be at 'Nova but am living 15 minutes away in the Manayunk section of Philly (with my roomate who is at Temple).  I'm not looking forward to my first winter.  Bye bye golf in january...

Manayunk is party central in Philly. At least you will have something to do when you are taking a break from studying.

you're right, but it still seems tame compared to nola... this is probably for the better, though.  its downright quiet around here on the weekdays -- can't say the same for where I spent the last four years.  again, probably a good thing.   ;)

I'm going to Temple.. = )

As far as living in Manayunk, the city is pretty cool.  My gf goes to med school in Philly and lives near Manayunk so I've been out to visit and party a few times.  I think Manayunk will be much busier once all the students return from summber break since there are so many schools in the area.  Also, there are some other areas in downtown Philly that you might enjoy.

I went to UC Davis undergrad in Cali and had some pretty wild times too.  I think 1L is going to be a culture shock...

that's a good point, i didn't even think of that... anyway good luck with your move man.  hit me up if you want to "blaze.1" when you get here

Villanova / Re: Apartment hunt?
« on: July 19, 2005, 12:21:16 PM »
Manayunk is the place to be.  I've been here a month now and I love it.  I'll probably have a 15 minute drive to school every day, but the roads are nice, and its a small price to pay to be able to walk to cool bars and restaurants from my loft.  Other 'nova kids live in my building too.  Anybody can feel free to hit me up for Manayunk info, I looked at several buildings here

(I had already decided on this neighborhood before my apartment search began, mainly because I am living with a friend who goes to Temple and this is a good half-way point, plus for social reasons, so most of my info is specifically about manayunk)

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Alcohol at law school?
« on: September 14, 2005, 09:54:35 PM »
alcohol being provided at campus events was a very common occurence at my undergrad, but of course I went to Tulane, and in Nola the rules were a little different..

In the undergrad business school, there would be events a few times per semester called TGIT (thank god its thursday), that would involve kegs and usually food (pizza, crawfish, whatever) on the porch at the b-school building, open to all undergrad business students. i can't imagine this sort of thing went on everywhere, though...

thank you all for your input... in my messing around, the best i could do was figure out how to put a button up that opens the Insert>Symbol character map thing.. I think i am also going to take rhapsody's advice of setting up autocorrect with SS for section symbol, PP for pi, and DD for delta.  that way i always think about the defendant and big boobs.
