Depending on circumstances, I am thinking about trying to transfer from University of Tennessee to Vanderbilt. Tennessee I a high T2 school, currently ranked 52, and I also got into Baylor and University of Florida (from out of state), both low T1 schools. I only got a 158 on the LSAT. Do y'all think it would be possible to transfer to Vandy on grades alone, or will I need to retake the LSAT? I'm only asking now because if I need to retake the LSAT, I need to start working on it now--I have a very hard time with standardized tests.

PM me if you want a free copy of a software legal dictionary. I ordered the file off of the Internet, and it came on a floppy disk, which royally pissed me off, since my laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. Anyways, I had to get the install files off of the disk, and I figure that since I have them, I ought to offer them up to anyone who's interested.

Has anyone ever used it? Is it worth it? I've heard all sorts of bad things about it, but I just downloaded the trial, and it seems ok to me. Of course, I'm not in law school yet, so I don't know how useful it is.
Anyone used it? Thoughts?

I just found out what my casebooks are going to be. The bookstore hasn't received orders from my property and criminal law profs yet. I've been looking at Legalines, Apen's canned briefs, and High Court Case Summaries, and the only casebook I have that seems to have canned briefs written for it is my civil procedure book. I'd really like to have canned briefs for my other classes--can anyone recommend anything?
Civil Procedure, Yeazell, 6th ed.
Contracts: Cases and Materials, Murray, 5th ed.
Tort Law, Phillips, 3rd ed.

Thanks. I currently work for my state's Court of Appeals, so I think I've got the court system down.
I'll just try to keep up with current events then. I kinda started panicking about the no government thing earlier, and I'm not really sure why now...

Ok, I'm getting ready to start law school in the fall, and I've never taken a class in government. Ever. I never took PoliSci or anything as an undergrad, and I graduated from a private high school where I wasn't required to take a government class. So do I need to know a little more than common knowledge about how the government works to do well in law school? Should I get an old PoliSci textbook and read through it? Any thoughts?

As far as I know, OneNote will record up to the amount of available space on your hard drive. I recorded a 2 hr meeting with it once, so it should do fine for lectures.
I hate OneNote's organizational system. I much prefer GoBinder's "tree" format, and the fact that you can see layers of folders within one tab--this is how I've always organized with physical notebooks, so it works best for me. But, everyone's different--I recommend getting the trials of as many products as you can and just go to town. Figure out what works best before classes start though!

^ Ooooh, good question. Any point in applying if you're just barely T1? If not, where should we apply?

Hey--I'm curious about this too. I think I should be ok, especially if my husband comes with me, but I'm worried I may need to take out more than cost of attendence, especially if I don't get a paying job my first summer. My tuition is $22K and my school estimates the budget at $36K, which after tuition and laptop and books, leaves about $800 a month (for the whole year, not just the months I'm in school, because I'm paranoid about not having a summer job after 1L). After $500 for a l bedroom apartment, that's not much for bills and food.
Anyone else worried about this?
