Transferring / Schools that accept many transfer students
« on: October 18, 2005, 01:08:09 PM »
I've noticed a lot of schools only accept a few transfers, just to fill space by 1Ls that left. Does anybody know any top 20 schools that accept a good amount of transfers, instead of the usual 4 or 5?

Incoming 1Ls / How Competitive is it to Get Into An LLM Tax Program
« on: March 20, 2007, 06:44:19 AM »
I'm interested in going into tax law and figure that I'll probably end up getting an LLM in tax. Does anybody know how competitive these programs are? There is a lot of information out there for JD programs, but I'm having a hard time finding it for tax LLM programs. Thanks.

Incoming 1Ls / Tax Law, LLM required?
« on: November 27, 2006, 12:16:43 PM »
I am very interested in tax law. I have noticed that most tax attorneys have an LLM, is it pretty much required to have an LLM to be a tax attorney? I'm just wondering if it is worth an extra year of school to do an LLM in tax.

Do the rankings only show the top 10?

Can somebody who has access to the tax law rankings list the rankings here?

Sorry that I've been missing in action here, but as you might be able to guess lawschool consumes a lot of one's time. I'll be happy to answer a couple questions that were asked.  A while back one of you who visited a class talked about how one of the students did not do the reading. Almost always, the students are prepared, whether or not the professor wants to make a big deal out of it is up to them and the situation. Class participation does have a small influence on your grade, so if a student is not prepared they are only hurting themselves.

As far as scholarships go, only a 2.33 is needed to keep scholarships at Case. That is a C+ average, which is actually quite low. I don't know the exact rank but someone with a 2.33 would probably be below the bottom 20% or so. So, the scholarships are relatively easy to keep, especially when compared to ther schools that require you to be in the top 25% to keep them.

Anyway, if you have any other questions I'll try and answer. Hope that helped.

Just saying hello. I was actually in the property class that you visited (at least I'm pretty sure it was my class you visited we've had several prospective students visit over the last week, and we do have a very interesting professor). Hope you enjoyed your experience. I'm a first year here and have been happy with my choice. I was lucky enough to get a decent scholarship (of course I had hoped for more, but who doesn't), and I honestly think this school is about as good as any. The faculty are very talented. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them

My city of preference is San Antonio. I have mid range stats (161, 3.5) so I know that University of Texas is out of reach, which I'm sure is the best school to land a top job in San Antonio. Is St. Mary's a good choice? I know it is a very low ranked school, but it is in the location I want. I'd guess the top graduates there get some good offers in San Antonio. Any advice or suggestions?
