Current Law Students / Should I specialize in Litigation?
« on: September 04, 2003, 06:03:20 AM »
Hey everyone... I am actually soon to be a 1L, but I think you guys would have better knowledge than the pre-law folks.

I may be going to a private school that has a decent reputation in general. However, their graduates who practice "Litigation" seem to excel and are widely employed at firms in the city I wish to live. Can anyone give me a realistic account of what it is like to specialize in litigation?

Thanks everyone.

Law School Admissions / Re: GPA gaps in Undergrad

Guest...let me know how it turns out. I also am hovering at the 25% on GPA but 75% on the LSAT for my schools.

Since school I have worked in Software (nice recomendations coming) and now I own my own business and a couple of patents. Does anyone know how much this will help to coutner the GPA?

Law School Admissions / GPA gaps in Undergrad
« on: July 08, 2003, 08:09:23 AM »
My cumulative GPA is 3.02. it would have been much higher however, my second to last semester I burned out and went to Europe for a month and did not officially withdraw from the courses. I received all Fs and my GPA dropped from a 3.4 to a 3.0...the following semester I scored a 3.8. and graduated.
This occured 6 years ago.

Will the law schools be hesitant to accept me if they fear I will burn out again? and any suggestions on how to minimize the damage in my Personal Statement??

Studying for the LSAT / Re: LSAT STOP WATCH?

I dont know the specifics on where to get a silent stop watch but there are many models available. I saw ALL kinds of stop watches and clocks when I took the LSAT. Some where the size of a small radio/Alarm clock but did not make any noise. Good Luck.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Private Now or Public in the Fall

Thankyou for the reply.

I hate to wait, I guess I keep counting my opportunity costs of making no money for a year vs getting started right away. Also, I am alittle older (30), and that has been pressing me as well. I am pretty satisfied with my scores however, GPA 3.0 (Sociology) LSAT 157.  I have 3 years in the Software industry and now have my own small business and have 1 patent pending and two more in the pipline.

I should note that I am not looking at UT Austin or 1st tier schools. I am primarily looking at Baylor, U of H and Texas Tech.
Thankyou for your reply. PS I love you site.

Quandaries Kids....

I have an excellent shot at getting into an expensive private school that is ranked about middle of the road, OR I could have a 50-50 shot at the higher ranked state school, but that would need to wait until fall admissions. Opinions on waiting? and yes...I will have to finance my education.
