re-take the whole class.

So, what, you don't take the second semester of the class?

General Board / What happens if you get an F at your school?

I know lots of schools are different...some, you retake the test, some you have to retake the whole class.

but what about the substantive courses, like torts or contracts, that are year-long?

General Board / Seat deposit. dumb?: do you get it back?
« on: March 21, 2005, 03:24:23 PM »
I have to pay a seat deposit April 15th and again May 1st. I got a full-tuition scholarship, so I'm wondering- does your seat deposit go towards your tuition, do you get it back, or do they keep it?

Let me preface this by saying I'm a worrier. I know this. I worry way more than necessary.

Now....I got a full scholarship to a 3rd tier school. I'm not thrilled about going to this school, esp. since I got into better schools, but it's w/in commuting distance, and I'm getting married soon, so I have my fiance to think about as well. Plus, we own a home and selling it would not only be a hassle, but a bad financial decision. The school has great placement in my area (where we want to stay) and has a great repuation for government work, which I want to go into, and will cost me nothing, so I can't really complain :-\

Anyway, the scholarship says I have to keep a 3.0 GPA. I know this will probably be easier to do here than at some of the other schools I got into, but I'm still scared to death. I'm not dumb- 163 LSAT and 3.49 UGPA....just scared.

Any advice, experiences, etc?

General Board / Financial aid ?s!

1) What did your school offer you in terms of loans? I assume most everyone gets the $18,500 from the government, but what other loans did your school offer you? (not scholarships)

2) Did you borrow from anyone else (private, etc)?

3) How is the money given to you? Is it simply placed in your checking account or whatever?

General Board / Having a baby summer after 1L?
« on: February 28, 2005, 08:08:58 PM »
I'm getting married in July. My fiance has a great job, and I got a full-ride to law school, so money won't be an issue. I want to go into government work, and am NOT aiming for a job in BigLaw by any means. Did you, or anyone you know, have a baby during law school? I'd like to aim for summer after 1L or summer after 2L- but would 1L be a better idea because I would need to get some sort of law-related work the summer after 2L?

I've always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, and this would be the closest I'll ever be able to get to it, and there are some fertility issues that would make starting a family younger more idea than waiting years...advice?

General Board / How much $$ for books each semester?

I got a full tuition scholarship, but will have to pay for books. How much do you typically spend?

Northern Illinois U / Anyone else accepted at NIU?
« on: January 04, 2005, 12:24:08 PM »
Any scholarship info so far? I e-mailed them and they said I should have an answer by the end of the week. Keeping my fingers crossed! I know tuition is really cheap, but I'd still welcome some money!

I've been offered money at Indiana and Valpo so far, but because I'm getting married, and want to return to the area, and have obligations here, I'm attending Northern Illinois University. My LSAT was 163 and UGPA from UIUC was 3.3. I graduated a year early. Anyone have comparable scores and can tell me what I may be able to expect from them? I know this is pretty high for them, but I know they obviously don't hand out the same kinda money that Valpo does.

Just curious...I'm in-state, 163 LSAT 3.0 GPA

Anyone who applied last year or knows someone who did that has some scholarship info? any guesses on what I'll get from a school like that?
