Wait List / Re: oklahoma law schools
« on: April 25, 2003, 04:33:45 AM »
For those of who are on OU waitlist, I actually spoke with someone in their office yesterday that was helpful to me. She said the final batch of candidates for regular admission were being evaluated on May 6th. She said that May 15-30 is when a lot of waitlist movement would occur with regard to those who are holding spots at more than one program. She said they had over 1300 applications for this fall and  it was the most she had ever seen for OU law.

Does anyone have information on OU law waitlist? I have been placed on their waitlist for this fall. I was wondering if anyone had detailed information on list ranking/tiers, deadlines/cut-offs, % of students who matriculate off of waitlist.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: KU to Texas?

I do have some suggestions for you. I have been applying to Texas law schools and I also applied to some law schools in Oklahoma. The main concern I had for my out of state programs were their connections to the state of Texas. I wanted to check out what law firms came to their campus for interview days. Check with Kansas on what law firms visit their soon to be graduates. You might also see if you can do your summer internship in Texas at a major law firm. Try and spend some time on www.law.com for some useful articles on Texas interns.  There are some great articles on that site for Texas graduates.  If you plan on coming back to Texas with a good job in hand, it would be to your benefit to do a summer internship in Texas. All of my suggestions are based on phone calls made to law firms and speaking to attorneys in Texas and Oklahoma. Congrats on acceptances! Best of luck.

Law.com has an article in which the top Texas law firms ranked the law schools. When it is all said and done, it comes down to getting the job you want and having the salary to pay off debt. From what I have researched: UT, SMU, Baylor, UH are the top four. SMU-business, UH-healthcare law, Baylor-litigation, UT-Tier One (rank 12-15 depending on the list). I hope this helps.
